hello, new friends! ♥
Name: Sonya
Age: 33
Location: Maine, U.S.A.
Introduction: Hello, friends! I created this account originally when I thought LiveJournal may go dark due to the war, but I couldn't get into it. I tried a second time a few months ago, and again, it just didn't feel right. I suppose it correlates with my inability to stomach change well. However, I'm here and ready to stay! Please, if you tried to add me previously and felt I just immediately ghosted, feel free to add me again. I promise I'm going to give this a honest try. I even paid for this account. I'm not as flakey as I sound, I just... Change is hard for me.
That all being said, if you have any tips and tricks to help with the transition, please let me know. I'm still figuring out the difference between subscribe and access lists. I also want to customize my layout to more accurately reflect me and who I am.
Posting Style: I use online journaling as a way to connect with others with similar mindsets & interests while also documenting the moments in my life, no matter how large or small. My day-to-day life consists of my hobbies with some work-related rants here and there. There's a quote by Louisa May Alcott that I love, "Preserve your memories, keep them well, what you forget you can never retell."
I try to post daily, but at least every other day. I don't expect my friends to always have something to say and therefore do not expect interactions on every single post due to how often I post. I do read and comment my friends pages just as often.
My hobbies are: abandoned buildings, camping, dog training, disc golf, gardening, hiking, homesteading, nature walks, paranormal, photography, reading, travel, and video games (presently playing:animal crossing, diablo 4, pokemon go but also enjoy: spyro, ratchet & clank, sea of thieves, world of warcraft).

I'm looking to meet people who: are looking to make geniune connections. We don't need to have everything in common, but I do ask that if you do add me, that you're not a conservative bigot that spews more hate than love.
When I add people, my dealbreakers are: negative people that don't at least try to make positive changes in their life.
Before adding me, you should know: About 80% of my posts typically come with a photo (or five), but I do try to write more than I show.

Thank you! I think he is too, but I'm also a bit biased. ;)

I'm also into abandoned buildings, dog training (although a total n00b at it), gardening, hiking, homesteading, nature walks, paranormal, reading, travel, and video games ^_^
So definitely some overlap!

I only started dabbling in learning more about dog behavior and training when I was about ready to welcome the newest addition into my life as of October of last year. We all have to start somewhere!
I'm adding you now. :)

This is my third or so attempt at Journaling here too. As long as I keep trying, I haven't failed!
I post about my day to day living and thoughts and often post pictures. I enjoy hiking, camping, gardening, reading, and video games. Anyway you seem cool so I went ahead and added you!

Best of luck to us both! Cheers to more new starts. :) I've added you back.

I feel like I'm still settling in here at DW also... I cross post now after having joined here for the same reason you did. I've had a harder time meeting friends here that want to interact, so that's been a challenge, but it works itself out over time.

Zug Zug
I started in Diablo 4 a few weeks ago, but I've been playing WoW since 2007. How long have you been playing and what classes do you enjoy the most?
Also, what's your favorite genre of books to read? And when you say paranormal, in which context do you mean?
I'd love to add you, if that's ok?
Re: Zug Zug
I'm an avid thriller reader, but I find that if I read too many in a row before bed, I tend to have nightmares (only time I remember my dreams). I switch it up to light hearted romance to avoid those.
I love almost everything that bends science. I'm most fascinated by ghosts and other entities, but also telepathy, time travel and multi-dimensions.
Certainly, feel free to add me. I'm adding you now. :)
Re: Zug Zug
100% this. And the same, there's something about the storytelling that's compelling.
Oooh! I've not tried either class yet, although I've been tempted to try Rogue. I'm enjoying Necro at the moment. Have you gotten through the storyline?
Nice! What specs do you usually go with your Hunters and Shamans? I've been doing Beast Mastery and Enhancement for mine.
The Vulperas are cute :)
Fair enough! Do you have any favorite authors?
Very cool! What's your favorite book/movie/series that features these ideas?
I've added you back. Thank you :)
Re: Zug Zug
I'm always Beast Mastery for my Hunters (yay, animal friends!) and I really enjoy Elemental Shamans! How have you enjoyed playing Enhancement?
I live in Maine and therefore must be a supporter of Stephen King (I am kidding, I do genuinely enjoy his work). Riley Sager seems to be hit or miss for me, but I like his work enough to continue reading the work he publishes. Lisa Gardner is another good one. I don't love Gillian Flynn's writing style, but I love her stories.
I loved the idea of Supernatural until it became repetitive within the storylines. I get bored with the same concepts over and over again which is common in most television. I love the House film series, but I'm not sure if it's genuinely good or if it's more nostalgic for me. Imaginary Friend by Stephen Chbosky really kept me captivated too. I read it in four days on vacation.
Along the lines of both paragraphs above, do you have any favorites that you would recommend? I'm always looking to add to my never-ending TBR list. :P I find that there are two hobbies related to reading: purchasing books and reading them. I really need to curb the purchases until I get through my backlog. Oops!
I look forward to getting to know you! :)
Re: Zug Zug
This. I'm also playing through the storyline with my partner. I think we're in Act III now, we just hit level forty tonight though.
I'm curious to see how the experience will be with mount riding. I'm used to having all sorts of mounts in WoW, but not in the Diablo universe.
I actually love all the events and seeing other players online. I think it gives the game a more realistic vibe, I didn't care for how isolated Diablo 2 and 3 felt when I played them. It could be because I've played WoW for so long, but I enjoy the online elements overall.
Rumor has it that they're going to [or at least wanting to] make a slot specifically for gems. But it might come down to not wanting to have code to break the game, though.
BM is awesome :) Although I've played around with Marksman for when running old raids and instances for transmog. I like the faster movement speed.
Elemental Shaman used to be my go-to, but I'm loving enhancement. [This could be because I main a Nelf Havoc DH and I'm best when using a mix of magic and melee.] I only seriously started playing enhancement shaman in Shadowlands though as a joke. Definitely didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I do. [My shaman is a Dark Iron Dwarf.]
Haha! I appreciate that.
I haven't heard of these authors - what book would you recommend I start with? I stick solidly to paranormal romance these days.
This. The earlier episodes were fun, although I appreciated the episodes with Charlie in them. What shows are you watching these days?
For books, I'm a huge fan of Kresley Cole [Immortals After Dark series], J.R. Ward [Blackdagger Brotherhood series], Laurell K Hamilton [Meredith Gentry series] and [for ...spicier content] Tiffany Reisz, although she has a number of books that within various genres. [Favorites are the Original Sinners series and the Red trilogy. The Red trilogy can technically be read as standalones, but the I *adored* the Rose, which is the second book. I like mythology and that one touches upon Greek mythos beautifully!]
Out of those, however, I have to say that the Immortals After Dark series is my favorite. Again, lore/mythos is a thing for me and I love the expanse of creatures that each book brings. Its more than just the average werewolves versus vampires [although both are yummy on their own]. She covers Valkyries, Fae, Elves, Demons, Lykae, Vampires, Phantoms, Witches, Succubi/Incubi, Sirens, and a whole lot more. Its fun to see the combinations of who meets who and how their stories intertwine. #NerdingOut
JR Ward, I've been reading since 2005 - her series is straight up modern day vampires. Think Blade but in a brotherhood setting who fight these undead slayers. There's more to it than that in the later books but the earlier ones are *chef's kiss* and focus on finding their HEA. [1 brother = 1 book, originally.]
Sorry, I'm going off on one but I 1000000% concur that buying books and reading them are two different things. I have read some of the WoW books by Christie Golden or Richard Knaack, I've appreciated those. Have you read any of the WoW books?
I look forward in getting to know you, too :)
Re: Zug Zug
"But it might come down to not wanting to have code to break the game, though." I read that as well and had the same thoughts. It sounds wonderful in theory, but I can see why they wouldn't want to put it in the game. I, too, am loving the WoW feel to the game and it is actually making me want to renew my subscription. I try not to activate in the Summer months because I could easily hunker down inside for days. I try to keep that for my Winter activity.
Home Before Dark by Riley Sager, When You See Me by Lisa Gardner, and Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. Lisa Gardner's books are technically series and When You See Me combines two of her series, but I believe it can be read as a standalone book. I haven't heard of the authors you recommended either. I am trying to broaden my horizons and will be sure to look into them! I tried following various book influencers on other social media platforms to get recs, but I haven't been loving them lately.
I chuckle because the only reason I avoid the heavier books when it comes to incorporating too much fantasy or deep into mythology is the names can be so difficult to pronounce and I am always so worried about saying them wrong. It's a silly little fear. It's not as though someone is going to come up to me and demand I know how to pronounce it. That being said, I have read the Ogre series of Dragonlance by Richard Knaack! I did like it. I want to read more of their work.
I still say that I am going to make it through the entire series of Supernatural as I know there's an end, but I always get stuck around season 7 or 8 and move on to something else. Currently I'm alternating between Mythic Quest, Black Mirror, American Horror Story (I know, I'm so far behind!), and getting my partner into Fringe. We also binge cheesy reality, The Ultimatum and Alone is our go-to when we are doing other things, such as laundry.
Re: Zug Zug
I had no idea this was a thing and most likely for the same reason. Good to know! I hae seen other events on the map and those are fun to partake in.
Those waypoints are a serious help. Its been nice to teleport around everywhere.
That's legit, though. I've had other friends who only play in the autumn/winter time for various reasons. [A former GM was a IRL farmer and only had the chance to play when he wasn't working on his crops.] But when you do, I'd be happy to share my battle.net info and add you so we could game together sometime :)
Thank you for the suggestions! I'll check those out.
It's a thing though. Pronunciations can be genuinely difficult - and if you're tripping up on one or two of them during a book? It can be off putting.
Ooh! I don't think I've read that series. Another one to throw onto the TBR list. I read War of the Ancients by Richard Knaack and genuinely enjoyed it. The pacing was good, too.
That's such a fair statement. However, season nine's story arc is one of my favorites and there's some genuine comedic gold in there. I hope you're able to get through some of the later seasons eventually.
No judgement here! I'm just now watching movies that I didn't give the time of day before. All of them to have come out somewhere in the early 2000s, I think. I've not seen any of those shows either.
Re: Zug Zug
I just added the first book of War of the Ancients into my recommendations folder on Goodreads. I'll be sure to check it!
Oooh! It's good to know that the storyline picks up a bit in Season Nine in Supernatural. I'll give it another go at some point. I don't want to miss anything that's good!
Re: Zug Zug
Me too!
These days I'm more about completing the campaign/storyline now that I'm geared up a little bit through world content. I used to raid (Wrath/Cata/Legion/beginning of Shadowlands), and used to run mythic keys (BFA) but I'm only in a guild with my partner, currently so that's not quite a viable option (outside of LFR).
But I'm huge into transmog, so I'm constantly running older content for set pieces and creating civilan-esque outfits. I'm also a title collector - so if there's a title connected to an activity, I'm liable to do that so I can have it.
What about you? What's your game play style like?
Let me know what you think! I also recommend Sylvanas' book, btw. Say what you will about the character, but Christie Golden did that book right. It gives insight in ways you wouldn't normally like of.
Yes! No major spoilers but I pretty much died from laughter after watching a particular scene that had Cas, Dean and Sam talk about... protection. XD
Re: Zug Zug
I'll be sure to check Sylvanas out, too!
Oh, I just love Cas. He's probably one of my favorite characters. I can't wait to see that scene! Aahaahha!
Re: Zug Zug
YES. What's your favorite story arc?
Which other ones do you want to get?
Did you get it?
Pssh. You're good enough. Don't ever doubt that.
What I will say - this is coming from previous experience and from love - its all about the prep: making sure you have the right potions/food/enchants on your gear, decent gear, studying the boss fights. If you're good for running Mythics, then raiding's kind of the next steps.
If you have questions, I'll do my best to answer them. I'm big into Icy Veins and WoWhead for information, ZYGOR has some wonderful guides for pretty much anything you want to do (which is nice that it's in-game).
Let me know what you think!
OOH. You're in for a treat :D
Re: Zug Zug
I really, really want to go through the steps to try and obtain the Lucid Nightmare Mount. I'm not even sure if it's still available, but I remember having that one bookmarked as one I want the next time I play.
Okay. All this talk is giving me the itch again. I may have to activate my account sooner rather than later. LOL. The problem with having so many time consuming hobbies is the rotation of them.
You're absolutely right. I really just need to refer to sites like those. I use Icy Veins a lot. I've never heard of ZYGOR, but I'll bookmark it. Thank you!
Re: Zug Zug
(Question - did you mean Duskwood?) I loved those storylines too! They were epic to run through.
This! Especially after all that happened in Theramore.
SAAAAAME. It was difficult to get around in that area when it was current content and its not served a single thing since. (However intriguing with Queen Azshara and the Old Gods connection.)
There's a guide on how to obtain the Lucid Nightmare, so I think its still doable. I know that's one of the mounts I'm eyeballing myself. (Invincible still evades me, so there's that too.)
HAHA. I feel you on that. You're more than welcome to add me on battle.net if you're interested!
I swear by Icy Veins (as well as WoWhead) for a lot of class-related play, but I've also checked out Method's webpage too for rotation and the like. They're newer to me so I'm not as familiar with their stuff.
Re: Zug Zug
I would much rather absorb the storyline through a book or movie than ever go through Nazjatar ever again. Thankfully that area isn't really needed any more and I can easily avoid it.
I wish I could activate now. I only have about two weeks of available time to play before we migrate into our busy season as work. As soon as Back to School season is over, I'm certainly activating. I haven't switched over to the new authenticator (I believe I saw somewhere that Microsoft is switching) so I may try and get in to update that. This wouldn't be the first time I got locked out of my account and had to e-mail Blizzard a copy of my ID. :P I will certainly be adding you once I'm on. It sounds like we could have a ton of fun!
Oh wow. Thank you for sharing. I clicked the link and see there are a few new things that I'll likely want to read up before I get back in there.
Re: Zug Zug
Fair enough. I don't recall Tol Barad very well, it wasn't one of the areas I actively played in. (But I'm not really a PvPer so that also may be why.)
I think this has happened to the best of us, haha.
Same. I think there are stories that are free to read on WoW's official website. I know I learned about the marriage between Lor'themar and First Arcanist Thalyssra that way. (Which was a total WTF moment because I legit wanted to see that in game!) The elves are still my favorite race in the game so I nerded out on that one.
No rush! I'm big into focusing on real life stuff before playing the game, so I feel ya. I've got the digital authenticator from Blizzard, haven't heard about a Microsoft one. I also agree- wouldn't be the first time I've had to email Blizzard for the same reason, lol. (I stopped playing mid-2013 because of life reasons, only to return in late 2016 and had to jump through hoops of fire to get my account back.)
Oh absolutely! I can't wait :)
Not a problem! There's a ton of WoW secrets, I'm on the discord for them. I love figuring out this stuff.
Re: Zug Zug
I never thought to check the website for additional stories. I'll be sure to check that out, too!
That's one thing I should do, join more discords! Even when I'm not playing, it's still nice to follow along with events and happenings. You never know what you don't know until people point it out!
Re: Zug Zug
I'm not surprised. They have quests for everything, lol.
Their library should be decently sized by now. I'll have to go back and check to see which ones they've got there.
Also true! There's a discord for everything these days. ("YOU get a discord server! And you get a discord server!" lol)
