Hi all! I'm a cis bi white woman who writes science fiction and fanfic, practices Wicca, and crochets stuff, though not as often as I'd like. Life keeps getting in the way.

I have bipolar mood disorder and I'm on the autism spectrum. Looking for people interested in writing, fandom/fanfic, LGBT issues, cats, mental illness/health, and the autism spectrum.

Also I love filking. And folk and classical music.

I'm a fic writer (ineedthislikeaholeinthehead on A03) and am interseted in fanfic and o-fic writing, as well as mental illness and LGBT issues. While I'm not on the spectrum, my wife IS so I try my hardest to keep up to date on the community issues as well.

Filk is the music of science fiction and fantasy fandom. "Filking" is taken to mean any form of committing filk--writing it, singing it, etc.

Mind you, if you accidentally left out a word and meant to say "and you know what filking is," this is all redundant...

Filk is the music of science fiction and fantasy fandom. Like folk music. The term "filk" in fact was originally a typo for "folk" in a convention program. Fans being what they are, they swooped in, pounced, and grabbed it for their own. "Filking" is when you're singing or listening to or writing filk songs. (I could expound at more length--I love the stuff--but I don't want to bore you to tears, lol.)

So my great love for the music of The Lord of the Rings is an example of this? It has the best music in any movie anywhere. The music for the lighting of the beacons is wonderful, and oh, the song that Pippin sings for Denethor while the armies clash.

Yes, that's a fine example (and I agree about its splendor). Much of filk is songs: either parodies of existing songs, mostly of the folk variety, or original songs. Topics include space travel, magic, references to books and movies and TV shows... etc. etc. People get together and sing and play and so on, and there is much laughter and silliness and enjoyment of good company involved. The link worked! Thank you! I've read the page. I think I'd enjoy filking, although my knowledge of science fiction and fantasy isn't as extensive as most convention-goers. I've actually never been to a "con" of any sort but I really want to go to one and meet Nathan Fillion. That's the dream!
