NAME: Dido Twite
AGE: 42
INTERESTS & HOBBIES: I'm your typical middle-aged cis hetero married white-girl quasi-nerd: choral music, athena division triathlon training, gardening, reading, ass-groove development in front of screens (I don't mind subtitles, K-dramas suck me in, I have a BritBox subscription and it's not just for Monty Don and grumpy detectives, McLeod's Daughters is my comfort watch, you'd never catch me checking out Euphoria), lite mechanical fiddling and self-back-patting (bikes and cars, building simple garden stuff), hiking camping skiing general fresh-air-ing while lacking all competitive/gatekeeping drive and more just reveling in nature's gifts (dang, that's sappy*), politically and socially a left-wing liberal navel-gazer, also apparently a big fan of hyphens. I used to say I love languages, but that part of my brain is kind of wearing out. I work with my computer in tech sometimes (I'm a combo reformed-retired-management-consultant-drone-goon).
*see what I did there?

LOOKING FOR: Similar to my own page. I like daily life blogs, attempts at deep thoughts, good snarky drama, bad snarky drama, photos, art, book journals. I love to see others' crafts, but do not myself have the patience or skill. I'm not into fandoms, and I was basically born middle-aged. That means if you're just out of college, I might be totally lost on the latest bands and climate change action slang (right, y'all are gonna fix that?) and need a glossary. Also, we chose not to have kids. I still don't mind hearing how others are getting through the ~18 years of no sleep, haha :)

ANYTHING ELSE?: The least interesting part of me, but it might help figuring out my entries: I'm American, dual UK citizen through my mother, and I've had almost 8 expat years now in Germany, Denmark, Kenya, Thailand, and now Australia. Some as a student, some for work. I grew up in the northeast US; I met my spouse in DC; we moved to Australia from Colorado.

Hello!

With the influx of people from livejournal, I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring as well to get some new journals to read!

I'm Jay (he/him) and I was on LJ from 2002-2019(?), and on here since c. 2007. For a time in the 00s, livejournal was my primary source of entertainment (and probably social outlet) and I made many longterm friendships through it. Obviously, those days are pretty gone, but I still really enjoy reading my friends' page and do so daily. I am currently in a quiet period and haven't been updating much but I want to get back into it. I comment when I have something real to say.

Anyway boring stuff aside, I am a queer/bi trans man in my early 40s who is more or less post transition and just living life. Trans and queer issues do come up at times, so at the least you'd have to be cool with that. I enjoy reading, art, the Simpsons, indie rock and folk music, 80s pop and new wave, synth stuff, Dad rock, etc. My current go to music/bands are the Mountain Goats, Depeche Mode, and Team Dresch. Music is the media I consume most, if that matters to you, though I don't post about it much it occurs to me. I do have LIVE MUSIC to finally get to go to this spring/summer, so that could change. The current famous-ish people e-newsletters I get are Erin McKeown, Neko Case, Samantha Irby, and Tegan and Sara. I listen to many podcasts too, won't bother to list them. I work an incredibly tedious seasonal job scoring standardized English tests--at least I'm using my degree. I work a fun seasonal job selling beer at 2 stadiums. My personal politics are pretty anti-Capitalist at this point, at least late American style. I don't have any magic answers to solve the World's ills, or even my own. Democratic Socialism is probably where I land on the ol' spectrum. Mostly I just want billionaires to pay their fair share of taxes. Is that too much to ask for?!

I have lived 180 miles from the WI/IL US border my entire life; currently I'm on the Wisc side, in Madison. I love cats. This is getting long so basically, if I sound interesting, feel free to add me.

Hello, fellow travellers! Seeing as there are so many nice new faces (*waves*) I thought I might throw in my hat. I’ve been on LJ since 2004 but left around 2012 for DW.

Name: [personal profile] liriaen (she/her, they/them)
Age: well old (52)

Interests and Hobbies: Obscure festivals for extreme music, discovering Europe on foot & by public transport, sitting in the sun and watching the world go by… Reading about the European Renaissance [I have a well-documented Borgia obsession, but I can't say I'm a fan of the various TV series; history is whoa enough I think :)] ... Fandom & writing - used to be Harry Potter and Blade of the Immortal, but for the past 15 years it’s mostly Renaissance RPF… Bible slash... Extreme metal music RPF... Art history RPF (Albrecht Dürer is very slashable!) …
I love books by William Gibson, Thomas Pynchon, Hilary Mantel, Salman Rushdie, Umberto Eco... and I think Michel Foucault is always right. Always. As are the First Dog on the Moon cartoons.
I love to listen to 15th/16th/17th century music (think Monteverdi, Desprez, Tallis)... music from Mali... music from the lowest pits of hell... drone, doom, black metal, a little death metal (nothing too technical; just gimme the dumb kind)... Nick Cave in his various permutations... post punk, hardcore, punk, neofolk, seriously nasty industrial, new wave, dark wave, oh and Benjamin Biolay can read the Paris phone book for me.
I post RL stuff interspersed with fic and idle musings, mostly in English, with occasional outbursts in German. I'll happily converse with you in English, German, but will also read French and Flemish. There will be copious swearing, uncouth subjects, crass humour and horrible music. So, what’s not to like?
My fics: are all here in my journal. Better and more recent ones are also at AO3 (I'm veeery slowly adding older writing there), a whole lot of antediluvian stuff in German is over at fanfiktion.de. There's also fanfiction.net which has fics even I had forgotten (with good reason, too).

Looking for: meeting open-minded people with a (dark) sense of humour and adventurous souls! If we share some interests, that would be spiffy, but no requirement. But but! Where are the history nuts? Come! PLEASE NO Trump-fans, antivaxxers, conspiracy theorists, rightwingers, neoliberals, homophobes, terfs.

Anything else? I’m not supergood at selling myself here; back in the olden days (they mumble toothlessly) we used to meet on thriving fandom or special interests comms and take it from there; now the experience is so wholly different. Therefore, if in the course of things we find that we don’t really mix, or find little common ground: no hard feelings. :)

[personal profile] razielim
BIO: Gabriel, aka Razielim, 30s.
INTERESTS & HOBBIES: Fandom! Mostly Legacy of Kain (RaziKain) and Batfam (BruJay) but other recent ones are Strugatski novels, AtLA, Captive Prince, Carry On, Mistborn, Witcher (TV), ASOIAF. I'm a very visual person so the best way for mutuals to infect me with a fandom is Really Pretty Art, and maybe also some funny memes and a powerpoint presentation. I'm only interested in slash and gen relationships.
Painting! Mostly I just paint, I don't spend separate time studying, but I'm always looking for new approaches and insights to improve my work.
Reading/Writing! I read mostly fantasy (preferably either gay or minimal romance), nonfiction (nature, history, neurophilosophy, and books that help me grow as a painter), Russian literature (favs: Fathers and Sons, Roadside Picnic), and philosophy (mostly Nietzsche, Foucault, Deleuze, J Krishnamurti). I write fantasy romance typically, whether original or fanfic.
More generally, I listen to a lot of lofi chillhop mixes, Chopin/Debussy/Beethoven, Stromae, and Soviet/Russian post-punk bands. I bake a decent amount, play bass, and get really excited to practice reading German or French when I randomly encounter them, though I am usually terrified to type a reply in those languages.

LOOKING FOR: I like reading journals talking about interests and hyperfixations, even if I'm hearing about the fandom/interest for the very first time. I love meta!! Ideally, I would love to chat or collaborate with people about LoK/RaziKain/BruJay specifically, but those are becoming more and more niche every day (esp on DW), so I'm just looking to find people who occasionally talk about things I also enjoy. I also like reading/commenting on/stealing question memes. It's a fun way to get to know people better and build rapport!

ANYTHING ELSE?: I don't get notifications for new subscribers or pay attention to who has unsubscribed me, and similarly, I subscribe/unsubscribe at my leisure. I only notice that someone's a mutual if we talk a lot. I'm a very chatty person, I just like to chat about abstract concepts more than daily life, so I don't typically comment on people's personal posts.

Recent-ish self-portrait! :) )
