I'll just get right to it....

I am:

28.

A former English major. I have a B.A. in English with a minor in writing.

A writer. Professionally - I work in elearning as an Instructional Designer, which means I do a lot of writing, researching, editing, content organizing. Personally - My favored genre is dark fantasy. I write short stories, novels, novellas, flash fiction, vignettes, and plays. I also write fanfiction (because I've never quite broken myself of the habit of playing in other people's sand boxes).

Introverted. The misconception is that this means "shy." But that's not quite it. I'm perfectly capable of interacting with people, even people I don't know or don't know well, but I don't tend to seek out those situations. I like hanging out with people, but I'm not fond of huge groups. I, inevitably, need to "recharge" if I'm around more than a handful of other people. I'm perfectly comfortable in my own skin and in my own head. On a Friday night, you're more likely to find me curled up with a cup of coffee and a book, movie, or video game than running around town.

Married. I am not a "Mrs." We decided to jump the broom not long after our 8 year anniversary (and after talking about it for two years), in part due to some job and life changes that make having the legal protections marriage offers a bit more...tempting. I still question the institution as it stands, because all people--regardless of sex, gender identity, and binary relationship status--should be able to access the legal benefits marriage provides without unnecessary legal and social fusses.

A bit of a fangirl. I already mentioned that I write fanfiction. I also tend to get hooked on various movies, t.v. shows, and books, particularly if they have some kind of fascinating villain or anti-hero. Most of my fandom interaction I get online, however. I've never been to a convention (mostly because I either don't have the time to travel or don't hear about them until last minute, though even at that point attendance would still be iffy due to aforemention introversion).

An amateur chef. In other words, I like to cook. Simple, tasty recipes are my favorite (because that means less time shopping for ingredients), though I like to try my hand at more difficult instructions. I love baking (but try not to do it very often, unless it's a relatively healthy recipe...) I'm going more and more vegetarian in the meals I prepare at home, because it tends to be healthier and also because of the questionable practices of the meat industry--even the organic meat industry.

Owned by four cats. If you live with cats, you understand that statement. These are our "kids." (Neither I or my husband actually want human children. Though we'll occasionally play with other people's kids and send them back to their parents loaded with sugar...*whistles innocently*)

Liberal. "Pinko-commie-hairy-legged-women's libber..." at least, according to some conservatives. I mention this because it may come up, by itself, in journal posts and it definitely colors my outlook on society and people's thoughts, words, and actions. I don't like sexism, gender essentialism (e.g. statements such as "women/men are hardwired to do ____" as if that's just the way it is; reality is not usually that simple), anti-choice mentalities, racism, homophobia, general xenophobic fear mongering, and other similar things. I like to analyze the "whys" of our collective actions, traditions, social norms, etc. I believe, in a civilized society, we should expend some energy looking out for others. But this isn't entirely altruistic (nothing is), because, in the long run, when you improve the lives of others, you improve society as a whole and improve your own life.

A bibliophile. The books will, one day, run us out of the apartment. I've read, maybe...1/3 of what I own, because I'm prone to picking up classics (especially if they're pretty) and books that others have recommended to me (especially if they're used). And my husband is pretty much the same, so we have quite a collection amassed.

A geek. Really... Movies. T.V. shows. Books. Literature. Comics. Video games. Some tech stuff. That all compiles to make up my geekery. Some of my favorite authors are Stephen King, Anne Rice, Patricia McKillip, Tanith Lee, and Poppy Z. Brite.

+Favorite movies include: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Company of Wolves, Silent Hill
+Favored Comics: Scarecrow: Year One, Blue Monday, The Joker
+Favored games: Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, Mirror's Edge, Arkham Asylum
+Favored T.V. Shows: Lie to Me, Roseanne, Prison Break, Daria, Heroes (despite its fall)

As far as my journal goes, it's a little sparse at the moment. I used to live on Livejournal (and I'm set up to cross-post as I still have a community of friends over there whom I've been reading and writing to forever), but in the last couple of years I've lost some of my journaling fervor. When I do post it can be about anything from random observations to politics (though I'm trying to limit myself on that) to ramblings about what I'm writing, reading, or doing in my day-to-day life.

You can check out my user info for more information. (It contains a link to my livejournal as well as my fandom/fanworks journal.)

I'm always looking to make new friends and expand my circle. My DW is unlocked, so feel free to look around. If you think we'd get along, feel free to add me and I'll do the same.

I think we'd get along pretty well--we have several things in common I believe. I'll add you and you can scope things out; no hard feelings if you decide it's a no-go though!

I don't post a lot anymore, but I love reading people's posts, and will even sometimes comment. I think we have a lot more in common than first glance at the user-interests shows, since I haven't changed it in a while and don't tend to be as specific as I should. Anyway, I think you sound like someone I'd love to have in my circle. I'd tell you to look around and see if you think the same, but I keep my journal locked down. I'll add you onto mine, and if you don't like what you see, no harm, no foul.

I think we have tons in common (writer, liberal to the core, childfree, can't break the habit of fanfic etc etc) and I am looking for new DW friends since very few of my LJ folks have migrated. :) I'm gonna go ahead and add you and feel free to take a look around my journal to see if you'd like to add me back (you can click on the 'flist' tag to find my intro post to new flisters, kind of a 'Welcome to my madness' lol). If not, no worries, just let me know and I'll remove you.
