Hello, I'm Selena |หถหแตห )๏พ๏พit's very nice to greet everyone again. 28, she/her, ISFP-T. My reading list has gotten a little quiet when I'm someone who likes to comment, so here I am!
My journal's 99% locked because it is my safe space, but I unprivated some of my more recent entries for now so anyone can see if they'd vibe with my posting style/subjects. I mainly post about my personal life (my husband is my closest friend and pops up a lot), whatever games I'm playing or other media I'm into, and other random thoughts or opinions.
๐ฉท A good sampling of my interests is on my profile, though not all my fannish interests are listed.
๐ฎ I'm an avid video gamer, and my favorite game is (for a mainstream answer) Mass Effect 2, though it's very hard to choose!
๐ I also love to read anything, including literary classics and fanfiction of my favorite ships! One day I'll actually track my completed books... I enjoy learning new facts no matter how mundane or morbid, so Wikipedia and likeminded sites are a comfort. My favorite book is Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami.
๐ต I love all kinds of music, though I mainly listen to K-pop. Since I grew up listening to Korean music, I have a fondness for 2nd gen groups though now my taste is kind of all over. My favorite group is BTS and I hope to see them again with their upcoming world tour!
I'm looking to find friends with journals similar to me, though we don't have to necessarily be into the same things. I like to read about other peoples' lives since they're typically so different from my own! I also like reading other peoples' reviews or recommendations. Sometimes there can be a lull in my own posting with how busy I can get some days, but I always come back. Dreamwidth is one of the few social medias I still use, so it's important to me. I've been regularly(ish) journaling for 2 years now.
Anyway if I seem interesting enough, I'm all up for being friends! I consider myself pretty tolerant barring seriously hateful rhetoric and emphasize with mental health struggles since I've been there (and am still here, really). Feel free to comment here or in my actual journal o/ I don't add people back unless they reach out to me first.
โ ๏ธ Unless I'm familiar with the majority of the fandoms I don't know if I'd be able to connect with purely focused fandom journals, sorry! It should also be self-explanatory, but no minors please. Preferably 25+ since I'm old and usually have nothing in common with younger people.

I've not played anything in the Mass Effect universe, would love to learn more about the game! What makes it your favorite?
(If you feel we'll be a good fit, I'd be happy to add you!)

I've always been very fascinated by WoW, so I'd be interested in reading your entries about it! If I was born earlier, I think I would have definitely tried it out when it was more recent (however with the amount of content, I think I'd just be overwhelmed along with a great deal of FOMO haha). I've also watched some Race to World First streams and even though I know very little about the game itself, those are so fun and entertaining to watch!! I'm always rooting for whoever I'm watching to take the record.
Mass Effect is in a lot of ways my outer space fantasies come to life, and was actually the series that got me into playing RPGs. I always appreciate a game with unique and memorable characters and the prospect of being the leader of a ragtag group of different species (while also ahem, being able to romance aliens) was too intriguing to resist. I also have a great love for the female protagonist; she's an unchallenged badass who takes it upon herself to save the galaxy even when no one believes in her warnings until it's too late. She's unwavering in her beliefs and is just... so cool! I've replayed the series maaaaany times and can't get enough of her. Since your choices have consequences and branch off into all three games, it was also the first game I played that went into such depth. I had to think carefully about what was presented to me in case it came back to haunt (or help) me in the future. And for more of a biased answer, Mass Effect has my favorite romance character out of all the games I've played. ๐ No one hits that spot in my heart quite like Garrus since.
(and I once again rambled unintentionally... but I'll add you right now!)

It can be overwhelming, with the content. I like to think that Blizzard eases some of the stress by allowing you to pick and choose what content you want to do (kind of like a choose your own adventure experience), but it's seemingly not as new player friendly as one would hope. (And doesn't help that the new expansion is the second, out of three, of a World Saga storyline. Midnight is being released sometime next year.)
That's awesome! Commend you for watching those, I usually don't. But the little bit I have watched is absolutely entertaining.
I love this! Are you more of a sci-fi kind of person than a fantasy person? (And yeah, romancing any characters can be fun!)
See, I love that! There's not been much in that way in WoW (consequences in what path you choose) so to know this is the case with other games is fascinating. You mention three games, are they variations of the main game?
What was it like to romance him? That concept isn't common for WoW so I've not been as familiar with it. (I have been eye balling Baldur's Gate 3 lately so I know OF the idea.)

That's hard to choose! The company who made Mass Effect also made Dragon Age which is their fantasy take, so honestly I'd probably have to lean towards fantasy in general for a medium, because there's much more untapped lore (I do think sci-fi can be a bit more predictable). And I do love playing as an elf in any game if I can!
Yes, Mass Effect is a trilogy. Choices from the first game will affect you in the second and third game, and vice versa. Companions can die, and you won't see them for the rest of the trilogy so you'd be missing a chunk of their content as well. I think it's a well rounded experience and still holds up very well now; they're actually developing a new Mass Effect game, though we know little about it. What we do know is that they showed a character from the trilogy in a teaser, the character is of a species that can live for hundreds of years, so we're not sure of the time frame here. I'm definitely of the opinion to let the trilogy protagonist rest, and hopefully this character will guide our new protagonist! Aaaand crossing my fingers that it's good, please, and not another Veilguard... But I highly recommend it if you ever decide to play it!
Oh, Garrus wasn't even intended to be a romance option, but he was so popular and beloved along with the demands of many (of us) to be romanced that they made him so in the second game. He's pretty much your right hand man and loyal even when you have to make the hard choices. Since he is an alien, you do have to use your imagination with certain things, and also, BRANDON KEENER'S VOICE. But they did make him verrrry husband material and honestly, just a great bro/friend even if you don't romance him. He's great and also the strongest companion if you build him right. I've tried romancing other characters but go back to him every time, haha!
OOOH I highly recommend Baldur's Gate 3 as well! That game is such a love story to RPGs and everything is so well done from the romance, to all of the characters, to the little sidequests, there is very little wrong with this game. They really upped the ante with the romance (being able to kiss and hug your S/O whenever you want, the actual romance/NSFW scenes) and I think set a new standard. Therea are not many games I can think of that go into that much since I'm sure for a lot of games the romance is more of an afterthought, but in BG3 the characters all grow with you and your choices so it feels much more significant. I *would* recommend looking at a video of the combat if you're unawares of it at all, because I know some people are turned off by the turn based combat. Basically, BG3 does romance right and is in its own league compared to Mass Effect, but Mass Effect is an almost 20 year old series.
