Happy Calculations!
Name:
Age: 37
I mostly post about: Well, I am a new account but I plan on posting about calculators, BASIC programming and math/science things that interest me.
My hobbies are: I really like numbers and puzzles and number theory. Random things about numbers make me happy. I also really like public transit. I like good music and I will share what I am listening to/feeling when I post.
My fandoms are: I do not have any fandoms, I am sorry.
I'm looking to meet people who: I guess share my interests, or are at least interested in reading about my interests. I do not want just people who like the same things as me because that would be very limiting and boring. People who are nice, post often and are passionate like me about something in this world.
My posting schedule tends to be: I imagine I will be posting daily/multiple times per week.
When I add people, my dealbreakers are: Probably the normal human things like mean or bigoted people. I am a very curious person with a very open mind. I can tolerate all sorts of different opinions and ideas. But I do not like people who are just plain unwilling to be open to others or worse think they are but really are not at all.
Before adding me, you should know: Obviously there is going to be math here and talk about calculators. This is very boring and painful for some. I can try and make it interesting. But you've been warned.
You get bonus love if you can identify the calculator in my profile picture without visiting my journal. Or, go ahead and visit my journal--you're more than welcome always!

I couldn't name the calculator, I'm afraid, but I do have a mild interest in them ever since my dad had a Casio fx-7000G which (I think; you'd know better than me) was the first commercially available graphing calculator. I was fascinated by it.
I have subscribed, which I hope is all right by you. No requirement to follow suit unless you'd like to, but if you would like to then you'll be very welcome. :)
(I'm not sure how widely it's known, but the newspaper headline in my userpic is genuine and dates from the time the Large Hadron Collider was switched on.)

I am not too familiar with Casio but I do recall the 7000G being an important model in the North American market during the calculator wars. Casio was a bigger player in Japan but had noteworthy sales in the US market as well. There was something about a graphing calculator back then and even up to the late 90s that just made the handheld delightfully alluring to little techies.
I've subscribed back and look forward to connecting more. And yay for smashing wee particles underground!

And thank you!

This video is old and is a third part of a larger series on the development of transitor technology in Japan, but it is very informative and includes cool information on Casio's presence in the market. Maybe something to help you sleep...https://youtu.be/ansXGewduN4?si=wwmxZ6_nLpbxra-V

Very much yes, to this day. For the sake of it, I popped into a nearby large Tesco (the biggest UK supermarket chain) and had a look at their small calculator section. Of six models on display, one was a very simple Tesco-branded model. The other five were all Casio.
Thank you for the video! If anything, its age makes it more fun, as I often enjoy old documentaries.

I hope we can get on like video games and calculators. I've added you back because there is only one way to find out!
I can only do number theory for a little while before I have to go to bed...
I remember getting royally confused about BASIC before, but I always thought, well, I just need to hang in there long enough and it might turn out okay in the end!
Anyway, I am 34, hence potentially 3 years younger than you!
My niche interests turned into linguistics when my musical aspersions didn't turn out as well as my parents' had, but I still ended up being the principal oboist for a Philly young artist orchestra in 2006-'07, and I've been trying with very little success to meet a friend abroad, as he and I share mutual interests in East Asian literature. (And some of the goodies.)

I've subscribed to your journal as you sound very interesting and nice. Which are two very good qualities for a stranger to have right from the start. Awesome to e-meet you!

Have a nice day, IDK.

Welcome!
Re: Welcome!
I feel like a Reddit Refugees should have stale coffee and donuts at every meet up and we should introduce ourselves with "Hi, I'm [so and so] and I'm a Reddit user."
