Hello Again

General
Name/Nickname: Georgiana or Georgie. Neither is my legal name, but they are what I use here.

Age or Age Group: Thirty-eight.

You
Do you have any hobbies?: Yes. Reading, writing, trying new teas, coffees, and nasal snuffs, cooking, baking, and crafts. At the moment, I'm not able to do the last three, but that will be changing soon.

Do you have any interests, that wouldn't fall under a hobby?: Yes, studying dandyism, anything to do with high culture, Received Pronunciation, and grammar prescriptivism.

Any dislikes?: Dishonesty, language being changed to suit political correctness, modern/trendy words and phrases, people who are easily offended and/or who politicise everything, informality entering every aspect of life, and those who constantly use obscenities.

Are you into fandom?: I'm not even sure what that is. I believe it's fan fiction. If so, I might enjoy a few creative stories here and there, but mostly to see how others portray famous characters.

What does your day to day look like?: I'm usually on Facebook most of the day, or researching things which interest me, though that will be changing soon, as I intend on reading more literature, studying my French, and enjoying more BBC radio shows. If I had a partner, I would love to go out to eat fine cuisine, to parties, to the theatre, to the opera, to museums, to the tailor, etc. Alternatively, we could just stay in and play cards or dice, read books, cook, bathe together, and enjoy each other's company.

How would you describe yourself?: I'm honest, hate drama and political correctness, and I am a good listener and friend. I also have a dry sense of humour with a tiny bit of wit. I wish I had more of the latter, but it's either not in my cards or not showing itself fully at this time. However, I love bon mots and witicisms.

Entertainment
What do you like to watch?: I'm not really one for television or films. I do like some things, but I would have to think about them. Mostly, I enjoy documentaries. I like Bridgerton, but I prefer things written during the Regency or by Georgette Heyer, as opposed to modern interpretations.

What movies do you enjoy?: See above. I enjoy some older films and historical ones, provided they are accurate enough not to annoy me.

Do you play games? If so, what do you like?: Yes. Hazard, Macao, Twenty-one, Poker, Bunko, and several audio games on the computer. For more about those, see audiogames.net.

If you like to read, what do you read?: Silver fork novels (Edward Bulwer-Lytton, Theodore Hook, etc.), poetry, memoirs, biographies, general nineteenth-century British literature, P.G. Wodehouse, Dorothy Sayers, J.R.R. Tolkien, and standard European works, in order to improve my knowledge. That is, the sort of thing that would be in a gentleman's library.

What kind of music do you listen to?: Usually 1950's through 1970's, though I occasionally enjoy acoustic recordings from the 1880's through the 1920's. I am also learning about classical music and opera. I use the former term in a broad sense, though I do appear to be drawn to the classical period.

Journal & Friending
What do you post about?: My daily life, dandyism, snuff, tea, antique menswear, books, surveys, old BBC radio shows, Received Pronunciation, grammar, high culture, and the upper and upper middle classes in general. Very rarely, I might write about blindness, but not in a dramatic way.

How often do you update?: at least once a day or once every other day, though I often post more than that.

What do you look for in a DW friend?: I look for those who write well and who share at least some of my interests. I am hoping to find friends who enjoy interracting with me, from whom I could learn, and/or who make me laugh.

Do you have any deal-breakers?: I won't add minors, those who write badly, who constantly write about mental health issues, going to therapy, abusive relationships, drama, politics, religion (a little is okay), or who post only pictures (I am totally blind) or fandom.

Is there anything others should know before friending?: I am, as I said, extremely honest. I am also quite opinionated. Do not add me if you are easily offended and do not ask me something unless you want a truthful answer. Otherwise, feel free to read my profile and/or posts and add me if you wish. I will most likely reciprocate. I also comment often, providing I have something to say.

Hi.

May we add each other and see how we go, or if we enjoy each other’s writing?

I hate drama. If it turns out that we’re Ill-fitted as DW-friends, we can just unsubscribe and go our own way.

Let me know what you think.

Going out on a limb here, but since you love dandies and the Regency period, I thought I'd share this youtube vid from perhaps the most famous modern "Regency" Dandy, Zack MacLeod Pinsent, as he makes an authentic Regency Waistcoat in yellow silk with a blue ribbon trim to be auctioned for charity this Sunday. He has a lovely voice, is quite descriptive about the process and there are some good sound effects, so it might hit the spot for you.

Zack is a Brit who dresses as a Regency Dandy every day and is very knowledgeable on the subject (he owns no modern clothes and is a tailor for people who want to buy "the real thing.") He's also a friend of mine and a sweetheart. Don't get your hopes up though, he already has a lovely (American) boyfriend.

I don't know if we'd be a good match as Dreamwidth friends, as I often write very informally. But if you enjoy French literature and dandyism, I thought I might point you to Dedalus Books, particularly their Decadent series.
