Hello! I’ve been on this site for a little while now, but mostly keeping to myself…I’m slowly opening up and trying to connect with people, though, so here’s a step in that direction!
Location and language(s):
Originally from the northeast US, but I’ve been living in China for the past four years. This summer I’m moving to my partner’s hometown in Romania. I speak a bit of Romanian, but hopefully a bit more soon.
Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):
Late 30s
Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:
The usual bigotries, conspiracy theories, etc.
You mostly write about:
Teaching (I’m a high school English lit teacher)
Books (mostly literary fiction, essays/autofiction, and “world literature”)
Spiritual stuff (dabblings in tarot and Quakerism)
Current events (not so much US politics, though; mostly the war in Ukraine these days)
Gender stuff
You never or very rarely write about:
Fandom, genre fiction (except the occasional rom-com novel), video games, really heavy personal stuff
Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?
Locked
Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):
Just about daily
Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?
No
What do you enjoy most about journaling?
Understanding myself a little better
How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?
Daily
You really enjoy reading about:
Teaching; books people are reading; sweet moments in people’s days
You have very little interest in reading about:
Mostly the same things I rarely write about
Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
I haven’t really had many friends on here, but I think I will unfriend people if it seems like we’re not really interacting with each other’s journals or if I feel like the content they post about isn’t really for me
What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?
I’d like to comment more! It feels a little weird, though, to just dip into a person’s life out of nowhere, so I’ll probably be a cautious commenter for a while

Glad you liked these questions! They were created specifically for another friending comm, Finding Friends (https://findingfriends.dreamwidth.org/). It would be greatly appreciated if you could also post on that community since we worked really hard to come up with a comprehensive list of questions that worked better than the usual friending-meme questions.
Thank you!

(I am a "comment when I have something to say" commenter - I started online in the days when brief comments that didn't add content were discouraged, and it's stuck) but I do read basically everything on my reading list on Dreamwidth, and if someone asks a question or has something I have an actual response to, I will comment as I get a chance. (So, also fine if people don't comment on my stuff, that's just fair, but I am often driven by questions and "hey, explain that a bit more?")

Incidentally, my husband is in China for half a year right now (not for the first time, I've visited him there several times), so we've also got the citizen-of-the-world thing in common. One of my latest entries is a kind of an introduction, feel free to check it out (it's the one with the two cuts!).
And feel free to unsubscribe anytime, if you feel we don't connect!

I'm not sure if I have can say I'm a "citizen of the world" at this point...prior to coming here, I'd never lived anywhere besides the US, and I've only ever been to one other country (Romania). But as is probably often the case, being here has shifted my perspective on a lot of things and complicated my relationship to my "Americanness" in ways I'm still trying to process. Anyway, I hope wherever your husband is in China he hasn't had to deal with any lockdowns or quarantines!
Thanks for adding me. :)
