Hej
NAME: Sadie
AGE: Late 20s, but I'm a late bloomer.
INTERESTS & HOBBIES: Illustrator, collector, musical theater enthusiast. I like spooky stuff, My Chemical Romance, Dolly-Kei, autumn, raccoons, Russian folk tales, whimsy, and the color yellow. My hobbies include rooting through junk shops, reading gothic horror novels, making weirdly specific playlists, knitting, learning languages, playing The Sims 4 and Animal Crossing, cosplay, and taking photos of just about anything.
LOOKING FOR: People I can connect with. I don't want to be made to feel self conscious of what I post, so no judgmental types. Sometimes I do post about fandom stuff and I hate that that feels kind of taboo nowadays, so I would prefer people who share some of my interests.
ANYTHING ELSE?: In 2020 I was living in Japan and I moved back home early last year. I'm currently applying to work abroad again. I'm painfully introverted after growing up in an abusive environment, and I'm trying hard to allow myself to be more open and vulnerable and my journal feels like a big part of that, so please be gentle with me. Most of my posts are quite introspective and about my thoughts and feelings, but I prefer to keep negativity off of my journal as it's not enjoyable for anyone. I am child free and not in a relationship, so I won't have much to talk about on those topics. Although my account here is fairly new, I've transferred over from LJ where I've had an account for 15 years so you can trust that I won't disappear.

Also love some Russian folk tales! My desktop background is currently this Bilibin illustration (though I don't think I've read the story it's based on).

By the way, I love your nickname here. My favourite Moomin characters are Joxter and Muddler!

I think we might be able to make friends! Hajimemashite! I am Claire!
HOWEVER, I have two CCS icons and don't mind very much myself!
As you may infer, my favourite anime/manga is Cardcaptor Sakura. Today I was watching the Chobits OP1 and observing how somebody put new subtitles to it in Spanish. That is not one of my languages, but it was my sister's chosen high school foreign language. (Mine was Latin, so I found it easy to migrate to Russian in undergrad)
Although I probably don't know as much as you about Russian folk tales, I have studied the Russian language and culture for sixteen years at the university, minus the two spent in the hospital (as another video gamer you may be familiar with seizure conditions, although not the specific kinds there are - overall I mostly find it embarrassing when people start waving their hands in front of my face, but then again, I'm also not sure how both parties can remain connected).
Then again, looking at that expanse of time, maybe I've heard of something or another around Stalinism. I think I know more about Stalin than about folk tales. HOWEVER, my teacher Svetlana Anatolyevna did ensure I got a pretty kniga (book) of Russian children's stories. It has such beautiful illustrations! So even if your Russian language skills aren't up to par, it's such a gorgeous volume of literature. ♥
However, my mum and grandma before her could make some absolutely scrumptious Russian tea cakes! They would all be gone the day after they were made.
Nine years ago, I visited the People's Republic of China for the length of a tourist visa since my professor Cecilia Chien introduced me to all the right people, but I also know a bit of Japanese - as I obsessed over Cardcaptor Sakura for seven years before that, enough to cosplay as both Meiling (as in the icon I picked for this comment) and cross-dressing as Eriol, from the same show. (Sewing his hat was OBNOXIOUS! You had to pull apart a hanger to keep its shape proper. I don't have either costume anymore. Sewing those costumes was a different kind of needlework than the painful exercise they made me practise in China, which was closer to "counted cross-stitch" than anything with a sewing machine. In China they made me make a cute little snake pattern, maybe to hang somewhere, kind of like the several other various cross-stitch patterns hung up around this house...)
I took (and failed) level 3 of the JLPT. The smart thing to do would have been to try level four first, but I was worried over the bad luck around the four, and doubted I knew enough for 2 or 1, even though I knew that two was supposed to be extremely fortuitous.
Maybe that means the next time will be better.
Money, though. Ahahaha.
The ex-boyfriend who is working at Target thinks I am Chinese. I see why, the character I cosplayed in the icon came from Hong Kong, but I can't understand Cantonese yet, and I am in the camp that says Hong Kong is not China, even if they got me to sing the meiyou gongchangdang jiu meiyou xin zhongghou song, which implies it's all a contiguous entity... I only vaguely understand Mandarin, I have to rely on the subtitles for Cantonese. (In any event, I'm American, and very hopeful no one will ask me to get in the current mess that is Asian affairs.)
For that matter, the ex-boyfriend who keeps telling me he's too busy and can't talk to me right now thinks I am Chinese, too.
I was just invited to the country a little while ago. I don't know and am reliant on whatever my parents say.
Also, for 2006's Otakon the third day I cosplayed as Hyatt, since IRL I have a similar hairstyle. In retrospect, it probably was a bad choice to choose Excel Saga's OP to sing with my best friend at the time, as I have been informed the slide is hard on the ear for people not hyped on Pocky yet, but...
I have always liked to MAKE the slide with my voice.
I have been on LJ with the same username for eighteen years! Um, seventeen; this is closer to the start of the eighteenth, since "my LJ-versary" is in November.
I probably might disappear now and again, since I am prone to family and health problems, but I come back, since I have my password written down!
So, would you like to become better acquainted with me?

The professor in charge of the linguistics department would implore me every semester to dress up for her Russian Club plays - I was in the Russian Club, da, but I was also trying to maintain a remarkable GPA, despite all setbacks in my personal life. For example, making and losing a couple of boyfriends, losing all my grandparents, and getting into a car accident when I got lost driving home from playing in a concert one January fourteen years ago.
Let me try to figure out how to quickly add you back.
Edit: It was easy!

I like fan stuff, but I don't socially engage too much. I write about my life in a private journal for friends, but on my public journal, some people subscribe to me for things less interesting than my feelings. I'm a writer of progressive things in rural town. I talk a lot about school, work, and family. I try not to make a mess. I think we could be friends, cheers.

Sure we can get to know each other if you'd like, I added you so you can see what you think.

Cool, I added you as well. I hope your holiday went well.

Welcome aboard to Dreamwidth! I too used to have an LJ account. Made it back in 2007 and lost all login info about 10 years ago, oops.
