Another round

I previously went by the username henwifeheart but I’ve gone through a lot of lifestyle changes since my last listing here, so I thought I’d see what I find.

NAME: Ann of Owlshire
AGE: Early 40s

INTERESTS & HOBBIES:
Writing (novels and narrative design);
Journaling - as well as online I also love notebooks, fountain pens, inks;
Gardening and small-holding activities;
Crafts involving string (at the moment mostly into spinning wool and embroidery with a side of knitting);
Reading;
Playing with my toddler;
Cottage witchcraft/paganism/mythic imagination;
Hiking in countryside/woodlands;
Traveling and living abroad (I’m an American who has emigrated to the UK);
Gaming (primarily LARP, board games, and table top RPG).

LOOKING FOR: Journals reflecting on everyday life, similar hobbies/interests as mentioned above.
ANYTHING ELSE?: My family moved from central London to a stone cottage in the woods of England (which we call Owlshire) a few months ago and we’re doing/having a lot of restoration/repair work done on the house and property. I occasionally photospam on the topic. I recently made the change from stay-at-home mum to full time working mum (although I’m lucky to be able to work from home) and it’s been a major shock to the family!

I don’t generally like to read about or discuss politics on my DW, and although I’m very supportive of fandom, it’s not really my thing to read or write about.

We have some friends and interests in common and you had me at LARP. When I lived in Edinburgh I played White Wolf "Vampire: The Masquerade" (the Camarilla sect) which I loved. I'm British, just moved up from Cambridgeshire to Manchester to be closer to one of my sons. I write about every day things and genealogy mostly. I can sometimes bore for England :) Do you fancy friending?

Edinburgh! Be still my heart. I did the Cam back in the late 90s in the Seattle domain. ^_^ More recently for ongoing (usually multi-year) LARPS it’s been a Steampunk themed LARP (Seattle), a Victorian Monster Hunters LARP (Oxford), a short-lived Roaring 20s Supernatural New Orleans LARP (also Oxford) and I’m part of the UK Freeforms community where they (normally) do a weekend long themed LARP in February and a weekend set of many short LARPs in the New Forest in November. Partner and I have also written and run some short LARPs and hope to host some here at Owlshire in the future as we have a lot of indoor and outdoor space.

Obviously, with the Pandemic and the recent introduction of a small human in our lives, we haven’t done as much LARPing in the last couple of years XD We want to try doing one of those big weekend festival LARPs in the next couple of years, as they are reputed to be family friendly.

Edinburgh was fab and I had 6 wonderful years there. I don't think I could manage all the steps these days ;) You're certainly a LARP professional :) Steampunk is wonderful. I haven't been for years but Manchester has the 'Cottonopolis Coglective' which I hope to explore further once things return more to normal. I moved during the pandemic so haven't had chance to explore much. Did you live in Oxford? My elder son lives there. We lived in the New Forest for several years (I move a lot!). Owlshire sounds wonderful :)

We lived in Central London, but ended up falling in with a group of LARPers running games in Oxford. We thought about moving to Oxfordshire (London was always meant to be temporary), but the Wye Valley/Forest of Dean stole our hearts (and is a bit less expensive!). In any case, most of the friends we had in Oxford have moved on themselves over the last year or so, and the ones we are still in touch with are just on the other side of the Cotswolds from us (they were here last weekend!).

Husband and I met at the Steampunk LARP I mentioned, so Steampunk has a special place in our hearts ^_^

I'm not surprised that the Wye Valley/Forest of Dean stole your hearts, it really is a glorious area. We lived in the Cotswolds once, also lovely. Oxford is horribly expensive. #1 son managed to buy a lovely Edwardian house in Headington Village.

Very cool! Husband and I write LARPs and homebrew TRPGs (for fun) and both work in varying roles in the video games industry as our money jobs ^_^

Once we are post-pandemic, we plan to run board/tRPG and LARP events (non-professionally) on our property.

So, basically just a pair of gamer geeks living the (country life) dream XD
