LOOKING FOR: folks to interact with and befriend. i’ve actually been on this website since 2011 and have made a handful of good friends, so that’s a trend i’d like to continue if at all possible. despite the list above, i’m not active in fandom these days, so i’m not looking for journals strictly centered around it.

I super like Alcest - they were the last band I saw live before the lockdown! - but whenever I think of them, I inevitably have to think of Peste Noir also, and that makes me sad. I know that Neige has spoken about this a lot before and that he was 15 at the time, but I get sad thinking about it. I mean, I'm awful, because I still listen to early Burzum, but it's like constantly there in my mind.

tl;dr I love black metal, but it's really not easy somedays.

Also: FFIX is hands down one of the best Square games ever made.

OH NOOOOO I HAD NO IDEA ABOUT PESTE NOIRE!! the main reason is because —-and this gonna sound terrible coming from me, a brown and queer woman—- i chose blissful ignorance. i got so fucking tired of finding new bands only to later discover they were neo nazi pieces of shit. i know next to nothing about the artists i listen to these days. one band doesn’t even do interviews, so at least i have that?


so yeah, i feel your pain. ;n; i love black metal, too, but jesus fucking christ, sometimes i just wanna throw it all out a window.

I get you, I get you, it's a fucking kick in the teeth. But Neige is definitely better than some, like at least he addressed it. I was really into Audrey Sylvain's solo stuff for a while - she was on a couple of Alcest records too - but she was also in Peste Noir for a very, very long time, long enough to know basically how Famine felt about such issues. I'm so miserable about it, because a lot of the time, I can make excuses, and I feel like there's a weird delight in me liking early Burzum, because, being queer and Jewish, I'm exactly the kind of person that Varg Vikernes would not want listening to his stuff, but some of the stuff after all that is just sad.

I guess we shouldn't talk about why Agalloch broke up. :p

I feel awful, because I love this genre, I love the rawness, the weight of the sound, I love the great shadows it casts, but I feel like there's a bitter little knot of people who misinterpret the idea of universal disgust with the human race as an excuse to voice their petty prejudices.

UGH.

But I'm super happy to meet you! I'm sorry for wading into your post with my own sadness about the genre/scene.

idk if this would make you feel any better about burzum, but last i heard, varg relocated to france and couldn’t speak french. i felt a smug sense of satisfaction when i found out, because he basically became what he always railed against.

The man is such a joke. sigh Me and a colleague at work had a look at that role playing game he made (it's basically racist!Lord of the Rings) and there are a race of people/enemies who are clearly based on Jews who all have a +1 to sneak ability, and ever since I saw that, whenever I get caught not doing my work I steadfastly cite my +1 sneak ability as the reason.
