Hiya!

NAME: Merry, but I also go by Mer, and Mermaid from my family.

AGE: I'll be 29 in August.

INTERESTS & HOBBIES: I like a lot of things, but I do not participate in any fandoms. I love reading. I enjoy: history(NetGeo History magazine is awesome), some science and sci-fi, fantasy, classics, anything by Lewis Carroll. Douglas Adams makes me giggle to myself like an idiot, and reading Tolkien makes me feel like I snooping in someone's old scrolls and tomes, and it's such a nice way to be. Also,  I like spending my time making graphics and figuring out how GIMP thinks. And I just love classic movies and TCM! My favorite actors/actresses are Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, Jimmy Stewart, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Gary Cooper, Greta Garbo, and Audrey Hepburn.

Lately, I've been drawing portraits of random musicians, and I'm considering picking up playing music again after too long of a break. I can play piano and trumpet, and I'm learning how to play tin whistle, ukulele, NAF, and I can play Scarborough Faire and Epona's Song* on my ocarina (no, it's not the one from Zelda, but rather a Ren Faire purchase.) Yes, I was a bandgeek, and I don't think that wanting of walking in synch will ever leave. I'm currently listening to music from the '70s and '90s a lot, like Collective Soul, Fleetwood Mac, and , of course, Stevie Nicks.

I'm slowly getting back into gaming and some anime. I have recently acquired a Wii and 2DS, so I'm waiting for the right time to buy Zelda games, and whatever else that won't play on my little, pink DS Lite. I'm currently looking around on the net for good solo RPGs to download ( I do not share well with others); my favorite disk game ever is Neverwinter Nights, not the online version. ;) As for anime, I used to really enjoy (and hope to enjoy again!) Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Inuyasha, The Slayers. Haibane Renmei is my favorite hands down, though. Just thinking of it will make me cry!

LOOKING FOR: Geeks are encouraged to use the front door, and nerds can sneak in through the back window.

ANYTHING ELSE?: ….well....coffee ice-cream is my favorite....

Publication order starting with the original. My original plan was to play through all of them before Breath of the Wild came out and then jump straight into BotW but, uh, I got really distracted. Emoji Smiling sweatdrop I started BotW early this year and I'm finally closing in on the endgame.

My favorite game I played on the way through that I hadn't previously played is probably Majora's Mask. Least favorite is probably Triforce Heroes.

Of the DS games, I think Link Between Worlds is the best available Zelda game there, with Spirit Tracks second (not counting eShop games).

Here's my full post, but the summary is that the first time I played it (2008, on the plane to Japan), I thought it was pretty fun. The second time I played it (2018, at home, having played every previous Zelda game leading up to it), I didn't like it nearly as much.

But, a mediocre Zelda game is still a good game! I had fun with it, I just wish they hadn't tried to make every part of the DS prove its worth. Playing the pan pipes was annoying, and I could have done without click-to-move. There's a ROMhack out there that changes it to a more typical Zelda game with D-pad movement, so I know it's possible.

And I found the sailing more annoying than the train, which is just a personal thing.

I've got a bunch of reviews on my Legend of Zelda tag!

What other kind of DS games have you played?

I used to play it more often, let's see...I've played and beaten Final Fantasy IV DS, Puzzle Quest, Chrono Trigger, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, and The World Ends with You, and I've played Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, Taiko no Tatsujin, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. For the breadth of the DS library, I really haven't taken advantage of it.

No, though it's a roguelike dungeon crawler? I love those kind of games, so maybe I should check it out.

phases like that now scare me, especially since I once did that all over LJ and tunblr. XD

My blog goes back to 2003 when I was a university student, and sometimes I look back at earlier me and I'm ashamed to share the same existence with the person who wrote all that garbage. Emoji embarrassed rub head I know it was a path I needed to take on the road to becoming who I am now, but...well, I'm glad I grew up before pervasive internet connectivity!

I got about five Pokemon games out of it

Oh, which ones?

I'm looking forward to the new Switch pokemon game. I only got into pokemon through Pokemon Go, and when I went back played Fire Red I wasn't really a fan, but after I posted that review a lot of my pokemon-fan-friends told me that I should try a more recent game, so maybe Pokemon Sword and Shield (or, as I call it, Pokemon Attacc and Protecc) would be more up my alley.
