Oooo, which bad movie podcasts? Flophouse? We Hate Movies? HDTGM?

Any particular true crime ones you can recommend?

We Hate Movies, HDTGM, and God Awful Movies (specifically does bad religious movies.) I just really love terrible movies. Okay, true crime wise, I listen pretty regularly to My Favorite Murder and And That's Why We Drink, but I also really enjoy Behind the Bastards (not strictly true crime but a deep dive into terrible people,) Swindled (behind the story of white collar crime,) Real Crime Profile (retired FBI profiler, Scotland Yard analyst, and Criminal Minds casting director do deep dives into TV crime shows,) Last Podcast on the Left (not strictly true crime) and Thinking Sideways (also not strictly true crime--more a discussion of unsolved things.) And then there's the occasional limited series I listen to--Dr. Death, Broken Hearts, Uncover, The Dream, etc.

Awesome, I don't blame you on the terrible films; just got into MST3K for this season and was shocked at how recent some of the films were that were chosen. Mac and Me and an Asylum film? It's bordering into Rifftrax territory!

Did you get a chance to listen to Dirty John? I know it's a miniseries now, but I felt like the show tried to "pretty up" some of the things that happened which annoys me although I understand why.

Also, if you *love* Behind the Bastards it sounds like a lot is on your plate already, but did you check out some of Dan Carlin's Hardcore History too? It's drier, but man is his "Prophets of Doom" episode crazy. I feel like a murderino such as yourself may also like Dumb People Town every so often.

I haven't listened to it yet! I like to listen to absolutely horrible things while I craft, so I feel like I'll put it on and work on some lace or a baby blanket or something.

OH YES. Oh man. I love history podcasts so much. The Prophets of Doom episode gave me nightmares. Also, if you love comedy history, check out the Dollop. I saw them live a couple of years ago and they have another live show this weekend but I promised my cousin I'd go to her Christmas murder mystery party, which is a shame because they're going to be roasting George HW Bush and advertising it as "Celebrating his life" and I'm anticipating more than a few people who have no idea what they are in for and I am A Messy Bitch Who Lives For Drama.

Knitting while listening works though! Keeping your head busy while your muscle memory is pushing through those patterns is a great way to be productive. I often spend my time cleaning the house or an office or while doing "idle work," so finding new things while I wait for my drama series catch up will be good.

That roast sounds AWESOME. There's so many skeletons in his closet people knew about just from his Reagan days alone! Plus, HW and his son could be like someone's proof that Flanderization can be genetic, so I've got to wonder how they'll push this (I say, as though I know what this podcast is about). No offense to your friends, of course (the fact that they're even doing a murder mystery party sounds like you have neat friends to begin with).

Some years ago, a linguist friend pointed out the damage done to society by moving people around so much that few folks now have the network of relatives, neighbors, coworkers, church congregation, club friends, etc. that used to surround most people with a social support network. One of the negative effects was that a lot of folks no longer had people to share the ups and downs of life with. So I made Good News and Hard Things, because online friends can help fill the gaps if we use the tools in the right way. Cuddle Party came along later, and as it got more popular, I put it in the regular rotation.

For anyone seeking community online, these are ways of promoting that. Some other folks have come up with their own ideas. If you look around Dreamwidth, you should be able to find things you like.

I'm an extrovert working from home, so I take all the contact with people any way I can get it. Years and years ago, I was homebound recovering from surgery, and the only way I had to interact with people was through my Livejournal friends and IM. I was so wary of following the Great Fandom Migration to Tumblr because there was no clear way to have the groups I'd known from LJ on there. It's kind of nice to see people flocking back to something I'm familiar with.

Most of the current social networks don't really support my preferred form of interaction. Sure, I like pictures -- for scrolling through while another page loads. For community, I need a venue that supports lengthy discussions. Fortunately, Dreamwidth lends itself well to developing close friends and communities. I hope you like it.

Oh, love all of the crafts! I'm a long arm quilter, plus I knit, crochet, paint, draw, Zentangle.....Also a practicing pagan/wiccan and a huge Stephen King fan.

I'd love to try quilting, but I'm hugely intimidated by it. I'm honestly not great at machine sewing. I'm a little-a atheist here, but I'm fascinated by religion and religious practices and what works for people. And yes, HUGE Stephen King fan here! I started reading him in middle school and never stopped.

I've been sewing and quilting since about age 11, so it comes pretty naturally now.
