New to Dreamwidth (ex-LJer)

So, I joined DW about a month ago after being on LJ and various other websites since 2000 (!). I've been getting back into the habit of writing privately, but I'm starting to miss the social aspects of online journalling, so...here we go.

NAME: Simone

AGE: 29

INTERESTS & HOBBIES: Singing, playing piano and autoharp, krav maga, trying to become more like Brienne of Tarth, cross-stitching rude words and passive-aggressive slogans, progressive Judaism (I'm an atheist but it's complicated), going to concerts/gigs/operas, attempting to learn German, radical feminism, asexual visibility, online roleplay (Pokemon).

LOOKING FOR: Anyone who is interested in adding me based on this inadequate but possibly-too-lengthy summary post. I don't expect comments on every entry, tit-for-tat, or comments for the sake of commenting. I'd prefer to be added because you think we could get along. I'm not super active and not always the best reader/commenter in the world. I will try my best, and will usually comment if I have something to add, but if you'd prefer someone who will comment on every entry (and especially if you're very active) you may not want to add me.

NOT INTERESTED IN: Twitter feed dumps. Fanfic journals. Misogyny, anti-semitism, racism, etc. Since I'm aromantic and asexual and childfree, I probably won't be able to connect much with blogs that are mainly about crushes, dating, relationships, marriage, bringing up kids, etc. I don't mind, but it might make me less likely to comment.

I WRITE ABOUT: Day-to-day life, maybe some memes/quizzes/etc that people can steal (expect increasingly sarcastic and ridiculous answers, especially if I get bored halfway through). Probably nothing political or controversial until/unless I get comfortable, but I might sometimes post about current affairs (I live in England, for context) and musings about whatever's on my mind.

ANYTHING ELSE?: I'm on the autistic spectrum and have a history of depression and anxiety, but I don't tend to write about those things. I live alone, I have a full-time job that I love, and a cat whom I also love. Most of my hobbies revolve around music. I have a singing teacher, with whom I'm working towards exams, and I recently got into an opera company. I'm part of a Jewish prayer band, although we're not that active right now. I'm also trying to build up some experience as a solo performer.

Music: A mix of "classical" (well, more Romantic-era...ask me about my favourite composers...), opera, symphonic metal (Nightwish are my all-time favourite band), dark cabaret, industrial, movie/game soundtracks, musical theatre, swing (1920s - 50s), electro-swing...mostly big and epic stuff, but I also like a cheesy pop playlist on a dreary morning. There's not much I won't listen to.

Movies/TV: Marvel and DC movies, some horror and sci-fi, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc. Not hugely into TV but currently up to date with Outlander, American Horror Story, Supernatural, The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. I also enjoy Bobs Burgers.

Other stuff: Portal, Pokemon, FFVII, the Civilization game series, Welcome to Night Vale, Cards Against Humanity, surrealism, tattoos, vintage aesthetics.

Also known as: Some of my friends think I'm GLaDOS. I'm not confirming or denying.

Anyway this cake is great,
It's so delicious and moist!
Look at me still talking when there's science to do;
When I look out there it makes me glad I'm not you...

So... I'm also a musician (professional violist and sometimes composer), have a history of depression/anxiety (even went to law school because I wanted to represent people with mental illnesses, and am still trying to move toward that), and listen to a lot of both "classical" (mostly Romantic era) and jazz, and it looks like we have some favorite "other stuff".

By the way: my favorites are Brahms, Schumann, Borodin, and Shostakovich (OK, that last one's not quite so Romantic). Yours?

One thing that you might be interested in, whether or not you want to add me: every Friday, almost without fail, I'll share a favorite obscure piece of classical music in a public post. Since it's me posting my own favorites, the majority of it is Romantic, including all but one of the September and October posts so far. =)

(Oops, semi-professional violist, with only one paid orchestra and no students. I'm definitely a lawyer first and a violist second. My phone cut it off for some reason. Maybe autocorrect did it. Didn't mean to overstate my involvement or ability in music.)
