History and philosophy are good, I do a lot of that.

I've also done a bit on Japanese culture (and geography), writing a chapter for the roleplaying game Fox Magic. (I'm an old-school tabletop RPGer)

Ooh, a group of my friends did some of that tabletop RPG-ing. I opted out of the game itself, but still often sat in on their sessions and helped the game master with ongoing decisions. It was quite fun, but that was yeearrrss ago.

I totally understand what they're talking about in that article and I relate.
