Hi. I've had a DW journal for a while, but I don't know many people here. Hope to start changing that.
I'm twenty-eight years old and a very late bloomer. I attended public college for two years before settling on a major (Geography) and plan to complete a third year before applying to transfer in the fall of 2010. I live with my parents in an apartment in southern California, where I grow sprouts and plot to take over the world.
I'm an unabashed technoromantic and an immortalist. I'm into the political aspects of veganism and animal liberation, as well as anarchist and no-borders movements, so be warned that I talk about any and all of these. Overlapping ideals are not required but are very welcome.
I'm a reader, sometimes a voracious one. I love SF and books about nature and psychedelics. Some favorites are The Dispossessed, Dreamsnake, The Winds Of Limbo, Valis, Walden, Techgnosis and Beyond The Brain. I like critical philosophy and (accessible) postmodern writers; Nietszche, Foucault, Zizek.
I love video games from the late eighties and nineties, though I don't follow gaming very closely anymore. I do follow anime, some favorites being Mushi-shi, Utena (series and film), Haibane Renmei, FLCL, Bakemonogatari.
While I'm being geeky, electronic music owns my soul, especially Goa and dark trance. Don't think Tiesto, Infected Mushroom and Armin Van Buren; think Hallucinogen, Savage Scream, Procs and Tamlin.
I believe (or mostly believe) two things: one, the universe tends to greater order and greater complexity, and two, we are an agent of this process. That's the closest I come to a spirituality.
I'm still figuring out what my gender is... I'm ok with my body, but don't really identify with my physical sex. It would be nice to have the headset from Strange Days. ;)
Who I'd like to meet:
Alterna-culture peeps: psychonauts, burners, rivetheads. Gamers and otaku are more than welcome, though they have to have some interesting qualities beyond JUST being otaku. People engaged with the natural world/their physical surroundings (living where I do, I'm... not very engaged :p). More than anything else, I'd like to meet people with vivid fantasy lives and inner worlds.
I don't promise anything, but if you think we'd enjoy reading each other give it a try!
