I often write about disabled characters, and I have some other neurovariant folks in my audience. Feel free to drop by my blog and see if it appeals to you.

Cool! Thanks for adding me.

Let's see, one place where I've got a bunch of disabled characters is the science fantasy shared world, Torn World. One of the major characters, Rai, is legally blind. You might also like the socially handicapped Eshra.

On my Serial Poetry page, The Clockwork War has disabled soldiers (in active service) as its core theme and P.I.E. has the hera in a wheelchair. One God's Story of Mid-Life Crisis has a primary thread on alcoholism. Fiorenza the Wisewoman and Monster House have disabled characters who appear in some poems.

As for coming together for ideas, I do a live Poetry Fishbowl once a month in my blog, when people can leave me prompts to turn into poems. Next session will be Tuesday, October 2 with a theme of "Horror: Demons." You can drop by and give me ideas, or just watch for the poems to start appearing. I always post at least one for free, and people usually buy a bunch more.

Oh, and if you're on the lookout for more stories etc. with handicapped characters, keep an eye on my feed. I often boost the signal for friends' crowdfunding projects, and some of them have handicapped characters and/or post calls for prompts where you can request whatever you want. There's one currently open here: http://kajones-writing.dreamwidth.org/117776.html

>>I'm not much of a critiquer though.<<

Feedback is welcome but not required. If you feel more comfortable lurking, that's fine.

>> But I'll look into them as soon as I get my own stories going again. >_< i really need to start writing again. <<

There are lots of opportunities for inspiration too. [community profile] crowdfunding has been doing a Creative Jam once a month with a theme and prompts where everyone can play. I've also been following some interesting fests; [community profile] cottoncandy_bingo is popular.

Oh, and we made a story collection for Torn World today, featuring characters with disabilities:

If you register on the site, you can put the collection on your "watch" list and get email notices when new material appears.

>> Well, I have been trying to find a place for writing. I haven't had much success finding an active writing community that helps those who are self-educated like me. x_x <<

Depends on what you're looking for, and what you want to write.

* Detailed feedback from experienced editors? We do that at Torn World, and if you want to hone your skills, it's excellent for that. A potential drawback is that it's specific to our shared world setting.

* A place to build an audience for your original writing, and maybe make some money? [community profile] crowdfunding focuses on marketing creative material directly to an online audience. Some patrons are really quite enthusiastic, especially if you ask for feedback. Over on LiveJournal, there's a Freestuffday community based on projects that offer free goodies, if you're not into crowdfunding currently but like the idea of calling for prompts.

* Ideas and casual attention with a low pressure environment? Try the cyclic fests such as [community profile] cottoncandy_bingo. People mostly cheer for each other, but occasionally offer feedback detailed enough to learn from.

And none of those are hostile to self-taught writers. I mean, sheesh, how else are people supposed to learn? A majority of writing classes are useless or worse than useless. It's hard to find a really good one.

The communities I recommended are open to that. Not all the other fests are, so check the rules if you want to diversity themes in that direction; but it seems to be a growing trend.
