Open for adding

Hello, everyone! I have been on DreamWidth (left LJ during Strikethrough/Boldout) for quite some time, though I have neglected this account somewhat lately (I blame university). I am getting back into the swing of journaling again and wouldn't mind additions to my reading list.

A little about me:

The bulk of my journal will be discussing school, offline life in general and my partner of 15 years (whom I refer to as Writer). Pictures will sometimes be posted, as will embedded video and interesting links or downloads to music. Cats may be mentioned at some point (I have four). Occasionally, I may mention fannish activities for the things under the cut below. Less bulky will be struggles with depression and DID, weight loss, and money - but I tend to sit in silence many times on these things, so you won't get a lot of that - just when I have to explode (and even then, it is placed under a cut).

I am currently entrenched in academia - having gone back to school after job loss in the newspaper industry. I am almost within sight of graduation! I am majoring in two degrees (history and anthropology/archaeology) with two minors (global studies and gender studies)  attached. My main concentration of study is East Asia. I speak some Japanese (but am not fluent); I love Chinese mythology, Korean dramas and Japanese music. Kawaii-ification is my downfall - I cant stop buying all the cute things (as evidenced by my edamame and my nyanpire plush). I also work in one of the academic offices and play with their webspace. Occasionally, I volunteer my time as a conversation partner for foreign students learning English.

I love to cook, exercise, surf the web, listen to music (it is my caffeine!), read read read, and do lots of other miscellaneous stuff that I am sure that I wanted to mention but will only remember after I have posted this.

I am looking for people that don't mind my reading them without always depending on comments. I am not the best commenter in the world, so if that is important to you then I may not be right for you. I do give feedback and thinky thoughts when I can, but I get busy and just forget to get back to you as most of my journal reading is fit in between classes or during work hours.

I need to upload more icons and sort out my tagging system in my journal...someday, someday.

Similar interests would be great, but not required. Open-mindedness and gay-friendly is a must.

Here is the fannish interest stuff:

Name: yohjideranged
Age: older enough to know better, young enough not to care.

For all these, I know I am forgetting to mention something...but here you have what I can remember right now.

Main Fandoms: Long, but the ones that have stayed with me... Final Fantasy (most of them); Kingdom Hearts, Saiyuki, Weiss Kreuz, Gundam Wing plus the occasional Harry Potter, LOTR, PoTC, or Middleman

Fannish Interests: I run three fandom communities: [community profile] ffvii_100 , [community profile] kh_100  and [community profile] areyougame  - all focused on video gaming fandoms. I am also interested in fan soundtracks, AMVs, watching FMV and cutscenes (I don't play the games...no platform), fan art, and fan fiction (the occasional read...I get busy). I have yaoi and slash leanings...sometimes yuri when I am in the mood and very rarely het. I am not extreme with OTP and have a sincere belief that if written or presented well, any pairing can work.

Favorite Movies: Ink, Sherlock Holmes, Pirates of the Caribbean, Several Godzilla classics (I love Godzilla), Star Wars (only the original 4-6- without the later added CGI), Meet the Robinsons, Big Trouble in Little China and a ton more. I tend to be a fan of Akira Kurosawa, Tim Burton and Danny Elfman.

TV Shows: Coffee Prince, Antique,  Doctor Who (big fan of 4, 9 and 10), Torchwood, The Middleman, Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs...but I don't tend to watch too much television

Books: Anything by Lynn Flewelling or Carol Berg right now. I can't get enough of their work. The rest of my enjoyable reading time is devoted to Japanese or Chinese history and culture or a manga or two (they are a quick read in my busy schedule).

Music: I don't think there is really too much music that I don't like. So it would be a rather long list.

Comics/Anime/Misc: As listed above, Weiss Kreuz (even with it's bad animation and plotholes), Saiyuki plus Gaiden, Gundam Wing, but I like other things too - like Mushi-shi and Kuroshitsuji and Ouran High School Host Club and Fruba, etc etc.!

Add me?

I'm adding you - probably because of the masterful entry that goes:

1. Semester happened
2. Work happened
3. Both kicked my butt
4. Semester is now over and I have two weeks before the next one starts up. Not nearly long enough.

Sounds like it could be my life you're describing...

I totally get that feeling of hysteria. Personally I've hidden the textbooks behind the boxes of Christmas cookies. that way I feel twice as bad when I want a cookie.

You sound awesome :)

I was going to add you just from the intro (you had me with cats and the scholarly focus on East Asia), but you mentioned Simon's Cat in one of your posts and that just clinched it!

So, I'm super-late on this, but we seem to have quite a bit in common (and, holy crap, your feelings on Weiss Kreuz are my exact feelings as well). Can we be friends? :3
