Happy Tuesday!

Respectful acknowledgements to [personal profile] ar. I liked your profile layout. I hope you don't mind that I've borrowed it.

Name: [personal profile] libelula
Age: 28 and counting - Scorpio
Location: USA

A little about me: I love books. No, really, this is the first thing you need to know. If you DON'T like books and reading-- and if you don't like the SF/F genre -- I would highly recommend not bothering with the rest of this.

That said -- I'm not sure what ELSE to say. I work as a graphic designer, sometimes as a freelance artist, and have a degree in art and animation. But I'm currently in school for English and Editing, attempting to get my second Bachelor's so that I can take it on to the Master's level. It's slow going, though. My dream job is to be an acquisitions editor for an SF/F publishing branch.

I write book reviews as a hobby. I also write, in general, with my best friend, though at present we're both a little lacking in motivation (I blame school for that). Otherwise I enjoy talking about my favorite shows, fandoms, and movies. Presently, those would be Psych and Star Trek. By next week, I expect I'll be excited about Burn Notice again, too. And I plan to watch the entire Monster anime series again, which will probably send me into paroxysms of joy.

I play World of Warcraft and can be quite geeky. You have been warned. However, you can rest assured that I'll never go off on a tear about what kind of hardware I'm using -- that's a bit beyond me. I will, however, get quite excited about things like the Sony Reader or WACOM tablets. =3 Painter is my favorite piece of software EVER. If only I would use it more often....

I have two cats and love them very much. Even when they get tangled in my knitting yarn or lie on top of my Go games. I write letters -- yes, REAL LETTERS -- to pen pals in the States and all over the world.

Random facts about me: I love sushi and Indian food, and I have all of the Babylon 5 micro machine sets. XD I also own over 2000 books. My favorite color is red.

Languages: Aside from my native English, I've spent quite a bit of time studying Spanish. Unfortunately, I have no one with whom I can practice speaking or writing it, and my skills are deteriorating rapidly. :( I'd also like to learn Japanese. Ironically, I DO have someone who could help me practice that, if only I could manage to get beyond the basics.

A Few Favorites:

Books: Melusine, The Virtu, The Last Unicorn, Ender's Game, Transformation, Chasm City, Flesh and Spirit, Breath and Bone, The Tao of Pooh, Michael and the Secret War, Monster (series), V for Vendetta, In Praise of Shadows, Battle Royale, The Crimson Labyrinth, Lost Souls, Sherlock Holmes, The Time Machine, A Song of Ice and Fire (series), Sir Apropos of Nothing, Richard III, etc....

I've also read a fair amount of manga in my time, but I've only listed one of them in the above selection...(actually, I haven't skimmed the surface of my favorite books, but that's all right...you don't need to know ALL of them).

Movies: The Emperor's New Groove, V for Vendetta, Dangerous Liaisons, Wall-E, Mulan, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Stargate, The Last Unicorn, Moulin Rouge, Infection, The Orphanage, etc...

Music: Muse, E.S. Posthumus, Ayumi Hamasaki, Namie Amuro, Koda Kumi, Sarah McLauchlan, Rob Dougan, Vanessa Mae, Bond, and other miscellaneous songs from various sources (including soundtracks!)

TV: Psych, Monk, Burn Notice, La Femme Nikita, Babylon 5, Star Trek, Stargate, Due South, Kung Fu, Quantum Leap, Monster, Horatio Hornblower, My Family, etc....

Hobbies and Other Things: Reading, writing, drawing, playing Go, knitting, tarot, and a slew of other things, really, but these are the top ones at the moment.

What I tend to post: I tend to post about things that are happening during the day in addition to updates at my other journals, book reviews, articles, and fun incidents. During the university semester I'll also post about my classes, both for fun and because if I don't, it'll stress me all to pieces. Sometimes I post to-do lists, photos, etc. I also tend to talk about fandom things, etc.

Other journals: I also run [community profile] book_reviewsand co-mod at [community profile] reversepolarity.

Warnings: I occassionaly have LGBT or adult content on my journal, so if that's the kind of thing that offends you, I wouldn't recommend friending me.

Friending Policy: I'm pretty easy going, but I do like for someone to tell me/ask me before they friend me (as my journal is locked), just as a courtesy. I like talking to people, but I also like for people to talk back to me, so friends who will actually respond to me on occassion are especially welcome (I will return in kind!). I'm not biased when it comes to age, only to maturity levels. Though most of my present friends on DW are about the same age I am.

Fine with me! ♥ If it works for someone else, I'm happy to share.

Also, you've got excellent taste in reading/watching/listening material--as far as I can tell based off the ones I know, that is. :D Have you read the other two Doctrine of Labyrinths books yet, out of curiosity, or do they simply not rank among your favourites?

I have read them! I don't do a lot of second-world fantasy (my preference tends to be urban fantasy and alternate Earths like in Thursday Next and etc), but a friend of mine here on the internets can basically point to a book at random, and I'll read it, they have such excellent taste. XD For similar reasons, I'm giving George R. R. Martin a try just as soon as I get my lazy ass down to the library, too, heh.

Corambis was quite fun--I kind of loved Corbie, thudding though her purpose in the book sometimes felt. Now that I think of it, I really need to give the whole series a reread, start to finish, since there was so much time elapsed between my reading of the first three and the last one.

I really liked Mehitabel and all, just...Corbie was fun, augh. And I totally feel you--while I was pretty chill with waiting for Corambis (having a bunch of stuff to read for lesbian lit'll make you hope that the book takes a while to show up at your door XD), I was a total spazzgasm for Deathwish earlier in the year.

Augh, summer reading--this I grok. I pick things up piecemeal, but I currently have...at least one series of comics and three books that I want to read/finish? Not to mention all the movies and TV, lol.

Oooh, I hope you enjoy Thursday Next when you get to them! I'm absurdly fond of them--they've got their failings, but I think their successes make up for it--and the author is a really nice guy. I hope Good Omens is good, too--I've meant vaguely to read it for some time now and just haven't ever been able to bring myself to make it a priority. (And oh, you're a better person than I am--I borrow people's books and fail to give them back. >>)

You may indeed! I'm not sure how they're going to go, because they're deep within the realm of The Kind Of Books AR Theoretically Isn't Very Fond Of, but I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised. XD

I was about to ask you the same thing. :D Let's be friends, et cetera. ♥
