(no subject)

NAME: Uma. My pronouns are she/her.
AGE: 24
INTERESTS & HOBBIES: I aspire to write fiction and poetry full-time someday. I'm multifandom and dance between interests a lot, but I'm primarily interested in
tarot and oracle decks
k-pop, k-drama and k-media in general
fairy tales
kink
mid-century women writers
webtoons (villainess stories and occasionally BL)
witchcraft, divination and spirituality.

I'm trying to diversify from k-media so I recently bought the first volume of Heaven Official's Blessing.
LOOKING FOR: I'm looking for people to mutually subscribe to and have comment-conversations with. If you think my posts interest you or we'd have things to talk about, feel free to add me. I'll usually reciprocate.
ANYTHING ELSE?: You don't have to be spiritual at all or have fandoms in common for us to follow each other. I can't always explain why I subscribe to someone and you don't have to either, haha. It's enough that I enjoy reading your posts/talking to you. I do make personal/life posts occasionally.

Hello Uma! I am Claire! ^_^ I am approximately seven years older than you, according to what you wrote. I hope that you aren't ageist!

I recently published online a Harry Potter fanfic that is Trelawney/McGonagall, since I had never, ever heard of the pairing before I read of its possibility on an AO^3 spreadsheet of Harry Potter couplings [I was always up super-late to watch Coupling when I was a teen - omg then I tripped over myself in surprise when one of the actors from that show actually interviewed me for an International Relations position at Georgetown - can you believe it??? I have had two Georgetown encounters - one for Japan and one for England - so far! ^__^ The third will probably be for Russia, even though they keep talking about this other nation-state in the news. Um... it's not Poland or Yugoslavia, it's... UKRAINE *had to check Hindi news wtf*] so I wanted to see how it could possibly work. (Unfortunately, my former significant other disapproved of the story I wrote, possibly very muchly, as I only discovered he also disapproves of yuri after I showed it to him. ._.;;; I had no idea about that! Lesson learned. We're exes for more than one reason. I selected it since I don't understand how men think, so if I wanted to write from both characters' perspectives I figured I might as well make sure that both people are the same gender as I am.
I also don't know why exactly I'm not out with that former significant other anymore. I still love him and talk with him every day, practically every four to six hours or so. Perhaps it's something more on his end than I gathered - I think he over-works. Aww. I guess that's okay. I can't really fathom pure maths, what he's really really into, though I tried to read his paper in... X_x was it Matlab? I don't remember. Too many years ago. One of those kooky programs. I just wanted to be supportive of my best friend's endeavours. Oh well. I liked the book I got from my uni library on Combinatorics more than his WTFery which made absolutely no sense in Set Theory. Yuck. Meanwhile, I am happily on page 222 of Charles Dickens' Martin Chuzzlewit ^_^ /not an Anglophile, just ... okay. MAYBE. I've only dated one Englishman thus far!)

In a similar way (in how I absolutely cannot begin to comprehend poetry), I have found the poetic form much harder to write than fiction because of all I've studied in Latin and Greek, which is most likely why all the universities have been sending me both mail and email and I expect will do so for the rest of my life. >_< Also, in a similar way, keep working on your kent with fiction and poetry! MFA's in Creative Writing are out there just waiting for your name to be printed on them :DDD It sounds like you're well on your way already!! I can't wait for that day!

I am glad to read you say potential friends don't have to be spiritual or religious at all since I joined American Atheists in 2016 or '17 and nearly caused my relatives as a group to have a collective heart attack. I read a few years ago that it's worse to have heart failure than a heart attack, but in general, it's best to keep the exercise up as much as possible n_n as well as to have a good diet. (Caffeine over-consumption is MY downfall, but I maintain a ledger to make sure I don't drink more than a certain number of cups of caffeinated tea per diem... I personally try to keep it to less than 500 mL, but I have been told that I could drink more and it wouldn't kill me. I'm suspicious, especially when it's so cold and my exercise level goes down...)

As you probably know, Uma is horse in Japanese... I was obsessed with all the horse books from the library from age four until maybe age seventeen, can draw a couple of different breeds, and ended up winning a couple of medals at the local stable for dressage. ^_^ (I've tried the other kinds of riding but I'm not a cowgirl, even though I dated one of those sorts of guys briefly in high school.)

Right now I am extremely excited since I just ordered a replacement philodendron to arrive next week or the week after! ♥ My old one which I had in my room from age fourteen until twenty-six gave up the ghost [Google says that turn of phrase comes from the King James Bible but I first heard "giving up the ghost" from my Latin professor, who was my third Latin teacher's instructor as well, oddly enough] five years ago, to much lamentation from both my mother and me - she subsequently became too ill to shop with me for a replacement, though she vowed we'd do so a few weeks after it met its demise.
So I hope we can be friends!! :D
ETA: If I double-posted this, please excuse me; I have been running around taking care of a few things.

It should be easier for you to see what my journal's all about now!

"Hello Claire! Nice to meet you :D I checked out your journal and wanted to ask before I subscribe: do you perhaps post on your journal under access lock, or do you prefer comment-conversations to posting?"
Hello Uma! My LJ is public (which uses the same username and maybe half of the same icons) and my Dreamwidth is under access lock, since I got a Dreamwidth account about five years after I got a LiveJournal account. I dug the LJ link up: https://claire-chan.livejournal.com/ since I had to get up for some reason or another. I can only remember the HTML to make stuff into a fancy link ~half the time. Right now is unfortunately not one of those mnemonic times, I'm sorry to say.
Maybe younger people are better at this technological stuff, but I am not geriatric! I just have problems with being on the computer for too long, for example, my eyes start to act funny. All it means is that I have time and a half on graduate exams. (Then again, I have to retest that every so often to check how that is, which is a bit stressful, ahahaha. My Chinese History professor was generous and gave me double-time to complete that bugger of an exam!!)

"Never."
w00tw00t!

"I shall leave a more detailed comment on ao3 (where my username is trashsshi)."
I am excited to read your commentary! ^_^ Huzzah!! Thank you for your kudos. I appreciate it very much. ♥
I want to go explore what all you have put there! You may see a mysterious comment or two, but you might not. It depends on whether my mother ever stops going on about this Ukraine/NATO thing in the news. I don't care. I was told about all that Russia was up to nine years ago when I visited the UN headquarters in New York City with my Russian class.
I lost that chess battle pretty embarrassingly ._. I sulked far away from the board and have reviewed strategies for a future game maybe to be held... at some time really far later.

I have subscribed to your Goddessgiggles account and given you access to whatever I have put on Dreamwidth, in the meantime!

Oh well, my other friend whom I let read the fanfic before I published it on the AO^3 website has always been too preoccupied with his Astra-Zeneca busywork to chit-chat for long, so I suppose it doesn't matter after all. I let him skim over the first, second, and third draft, because I figured, hey, this is an actual British gentleman, he might be able to tell me something valid about how real English people react, then I just didn't bother with the final copy that went up on Archive of Our Own since he was absolutely sneering at the whole idea of the whole goose thing in that wry Slytherin-type way. (I am not British, myself. I am American. Hungarian/Irish if my parents' stories line up properly, but I let that translate into essentially the Russian/Chinese languages, since Hungary is geographically closer to the former USSR than the US. Then I figured Irish might as well be Chinese since I had been in a relationship with a British friend who is Chinese, and Ireland is just next door. [to England] I have read that Northern Ireland is a British territory, but I wouldn't want to visit- I am nervous about the bombings I've seen on the BBC...)
(Also, I don't know how I got mixed up with one of those sorts. I had just been in an on-again off-again relationship with him for fifteen years.)
I am actually an American - a Philadelphian woman. I started doing my own thing with orthography around age 17 because I was confident that I most likely would not have to compete in another spelling bee. (Age 17 was about fourteen years ago. *not afraid to "carbon-date" herself*) If you wanted to "sort" me into a House, I'd probably be in Ravenclaw, because I MISS MY COCKATIEL AND WISH HE COMES BACK SOON ♥
My family particularly approved of my winning the school, district, and making it three words through the regional bee when I was that age though! However, they continually make fun of me for the word I lost on - lilliputian. I did not make it to the state spelling bee because I had not read Gulliver's Travels yet. It was on the reading list for the next school year.

"That's fascinating. I confess I can only write freeform poetry, although someday I want to write a limerick. How does your study of Latin and Greek affect your approach to the poetic form?"
Hmm. I wish you luck with your limerick! I've heard of a lot of Irish poets like James Joyce who were experts in that form...
Urgh, in Latin and Greek, they had a lot of poets and tragedians too, with extremely precise linguistic forms, such as Catullus, Aeschylus, Horace, Tibullus, Ovid... I went to a number of graduate schools in the Philadelphia area in 2007-2009 to discuss art forms like these.
Um. Besides that... I found it exceedingly difficult to write in the poetic manner prescribed by the Ancients.

"My family would likewise be upset if they found out I don't identify as Hindu, so I'm with you there xD I don't think it's fair that we're born into religion, really."
The only reason my mother did not put me out in the cold was the disapproval of the neighbours.

"Oh wow, I actually didn't know that! I was named after Parvati, as Uma is one of her names (and I think that's also the reason Uma Thurman was given her name after her parents converted or something?) I never became obsessed with horses, probably because horseriding is rare where I live; but it seemed very British girls boarding school to me for some reason."
I've been told about Uma Thurman by my mother. Also, I have read that the climate is inappropriate for hooved animals in India. (It is also not-so-good in China, for that matter... *has been through semesters of Chinese*)
It never occurred to me that horseback riding could just be a British girl boarding school kind of thing since it was just presented to me as the thing that everyone just did whether they wanted to or not when I was little. And I read all the little books that came with the cultural thing - like the Saddle Club, and I think there were like three other series. (I remembered the HTML thing, a little later in the afternoon.)

Now that you say it, I remember hearing the story about Parvati from my International Relations professor a couple of semesters ago...

"And it's an overload on the nervous system so the less caffeine the better I think."
I have been told many times to keep an eye on my caffeine intake. You are just joining the choir here, hahahaha!

"Poor plant. They're so delicate yet self-sufficient."
So I will let you know when my new one comes! ^_^

"Absolutely yes! I shall await your reply on whether you'd like mutual access, mutual subscriptions, or both."
Yippee! Let's go with both! I went ahead and both gave you access and subscribed to your journal.

THANK YOU UMA, I AM HAPPY TO HAVE MET YOU TODAY ^_^ You most likely won't have to deal with the fellow I mentioned before, my ex-boyfriend Cong, unless he noses his way into my affairs again.

"Same, and it's hard because work has me in front of the screen all day and my hobbies do too, except for reading physical books."
What sort of hobbies do you currently maintain? I must not have read the k-pop, k-drama, and tarot stuff from the original post very clearly. >__@
When it comes to the Tarot, I used to "fortune tell" on my family back when I had enough energy to do so.
Aww, I had some other comments too but it didn't maintain itself, so to make sense I am leaving whatever it was off.
I myself currently like reading too, as it does expand my vocabulary in many happy ways (for example, Dickens' sagacious which I didn't know before means having or showing acute mental discernment and keen practical sense; shrewd according to the online dictionary I just checked! Sage is a plant (Salvia officinalis) that my mum likes to grow in my kitchen window! ._. She is more of a horticultural expert than I am - I am a cat and bird breeder, I have had at least one pet cockatiel<> and two pet calicos since age 5 - they have changed around a couple of times because my household has unfortunately been a smoking environment and I didn't know that was bad for animals because my parents were smokers. ??? I was just born into the smog, so, hahaha, when I visited the People's Republic of China (it seems I may have family ties but I couldn't tell you the exact details) I couldn't tell a major difference in air quality even though I have read in Meteorology studies that there should be a significant difference.
For the benefit of my lungs I just have become a wind performer - a notable one, in high school and undergrad school, at least - of the perhaps five or eight competing musicians, I was the only selected oboist from my area to travel from my high school band room to another more expansive auditorium several hours away, and I worked hard on an undergrad degree in oboe performance for the longest... I was psyched, alarmed and conflicted as to what to do next.
Currently, my pet birds are all outdoors such as my blue jay, the robins, the chickadees and all the rest of the hundred-some I counted up for the West Chester Bird Club or whatever the local ornithological society likes to call themselves. *shrug* ???

Also, sage means a wise person, the sagacious thing.
"But the goose thing was my favourite part! *gasps in outrage*"
Well, thank you! I am glad that some people are in approval of the whole gambit I played. And, for now, it's a little more important that you enjoyed it - since your review was more "public," so to speak, on Archive of Our Own, than his scorn and mockery via email, which was private, as he was a LiveJournal friend and I had a long time ago requested privacy in our conversations.
Ohhh, it wasn't especially different from the fellow who picked on my best friend and me holding hands in middle school.

When I was 15 or 16, before I met the British guy who didn't like the fanfic I wrote you liked, this jock from my middle school made terrible fun of me and my best friend Lauren (who to this day still texts me about all her fun International Relations exploits at this or that big-name uni - she invites me all the time to go and visit her, but it is not always practical!!) just for being friends - walking down the hallway holding hands, as I recall. It was terrible. So I see how this episode is just a variation of that. Different fellow, same feelings. When I was walking back from delivering something to my mother I thought up the word for it: maybe it could have been "bullying?"
But that is terrible, I am a strong person, and so is the other woman!

Thank you for subscribing and giving me access back! ^___^

I will continue to let you know as my academic work transpires~! It has been mostly getting my sleep patterns to improve and working on improving my health overall thus far, strangely enough. More of my academic work was done in late undergrad and throughout high school than now, because I was much healthier then.
Right now I am just finishing a couple of books.
