INTERESTS & HOBBIES: Video Games, Martial Arts, Boxing, Anime. To be honest Video Games are my passion I love playing them, talking about them, collecting them, and writing about them. I've been playing games since I was seven years old and got my first NES for my Birthday (Which was in 1989) I play just about anything though the Final Fantasy series is by far my favorite, and fighting games would be my second favorite. I used to be a big comic book fan as well but that has sort of wained over the years.

LOOKING FOR: Friends to read and comment on their entries and vice-versa

ANYTHING ELSE: On my Journal I mostly write about stuff that's going on in my life, sometimes it will be about games, but lately it's been about pulling myself out of a recent depression and getting my life back. My journal will pretty much always be like "Hey here is what's going on" sometimes I'll vent, other times it's just day to day stuff. I may rant about some video game stuff from time to time (or just share a link to my Wordpress). I tend to avoid politics because I feel this is not the time or the place for that discussion.

Yes, well I tend to write opinion pieces in my wordpress, Dreamwidth is more for "hey I was just playing X" or whatever.

we have some similar interests. if it's not too much can you elaborate a little on your ' no politics ' policy? is it certain viewpoints that bother you or did you just mean it's something that never comes up in your posts?

The most I’ll get political is “gaming politics” which isn’t real politics, but for example there is a big censorship thing going on at Sony. I may talk about that. As for everything else I just don’t talk about it here and generally skip over an entry if it’s polticaly heavy.

thanks for the clarification. one of the reasons other social media feels so draining is because of ' real politics ' so, i understand. anyway, i'd assume you're a blm, yes? me too!

i haven't gotten a chance to post anything game related yet but it would probably only be screenshots. updates tend to revolve around personal thoughts and feelings and i'm interested in reading other people's too. let me know if it's alright to add you.

That is why I avoid it here because I see so much of it on Facebook from both sides I just am over it. Yes I do play BLM which is funny because when I played XI I never touched BLM and preferred melee DPS And COR.

fb is and will always be a disaster. i deactivated and haven't looked back. & yes, i figured since your username gave it away. xi is one of the few ff's i've never played at all. occupying myself with crafting in xiv is a decent way to unwind when RNG doesn't interfere.

this journal is ancient and it's taken awhile to get acclimated to posting again. originally it was completely private but i decided that i isolate enough and began to gradually grant access.

I almost forgot about my user name. Yeah I Went with this because of BLM but also I love ice stuff and ice spells. I played XI for a long time.. it was fun back then but I could not go back to it now.

I've been getting back into playing games myself after a depressive episode that lasted months :/ Also Final fantasy is pretty great. I've been trying to get myself to play the few final fantasy games my partner has since the only one I own is crystal chronicles which is kinda its own thing. Though I did play the online multiplayer one for a few months and loved it.

I also post mostly about my daily life, but a lot of video game and theatre (as a watcher, not a performance) stuff, Japan and Japanese (I lived in Japan for three years), and occasionally religion (I'm Jewish).

in Japanese? the original release that lacked the weapons or one of the HD versions? I'm interested as to what difference there are in the characters based on dialogue.

An old friend of mine and her husband currently live in Japan as JETS and I have always had an interest in Japan and it's culture. I am kind of re-discovering Buddhism, but I haven't talked about it yet. Anyway, I have added you back.

The original SNES release. My experience with it was that Edgar was creepier, Kefka was less compelling, Terra was more compelling, and Celes had greater character growth over the course of the game, but I admit it's been a few years since I played it in English.

Oh geez I am a dip, I thought you said VII which was why I mentioned the weapons. I've heard that a lot of Kefka's personality was in part to Ted Woolsey the original translator/localizer.

Oh, nope! I haven't even played VII in English yet--I've been waiting for the remake, which means I'll probably never play it.

A lot of Kefka's most famous lines are the result of localization ("I hate hate hate [...] hate you," for example), and are blander in the original. There's some neat stuff done with honorifics and levels of formality in Kefka's dialogue, but overall he's not as interesting.

That's true elsewhere, too, like Edgar's line about Shadow "He'd kill his own momma for a nickel!" is just 金のためには親友をも殺しかねない暗殺者だ ("An assassin who would kill his close friends for money"), so it lacks the pizzazz that Woolsey's localization has.

Hi! I'm going to add you, but thought I should introduce myself. I'm a big Final Fantasy fan as well. Currently playing XV for the first time, and I play FF Brave Exvius daily, with occasional forays in Record Keeper and Mobius. I played XI on the Valefor server, but had to quit due to lack of money.

I also have depression and anxiety, though I'm relatively stable now. In my journal I write a lot about gaming, daily life, family, and also do a monthly crafting post (I knit and crochet).

I want to jump back into XV at some point, I kind of felt rushed through it the first time I played it because I was borrowing someone elses copy. I don't play the mobile games though, couldn't get into them sadly. back in the XI days I was on Shiva!

It's always an interesting thing how localizations can sometimes change something for the better or worse, though the latter seems to be what happens most of the time.

Often times, the thing I think localization really improves is name choices. The go-to example for me is magicite, which is just 魔石 (maseki, "Magic rock") in Japanese.

But often when it comes to plot or characterization, I'd rather read the original.
