How very awkward...I guess it's best to cut to the chase. My main interest here at Dreamwidth is discussions about writing and/or reading. I don't journal all that much myself, or like to reveal a lot of personal information outside of PMs, chat, or e-mail but I certainly don't mind when other people post whatever's on their mind. Unless someone posts with a very high frequency (once a day or more) I generally comment on most of my reading list entries. I'm a fan of many things, but the obsessive escapism of fandom quickly gets on my nerves. Been there, done that...I don't judge, but I'm not interested.

I've recently turned forty. I don't know how much that affects discussions about reading, writing, movie recs, and general silliness, but the majority of people here seem to be around 20 and I don't want to lie by omission. Obviously I won't friend underaged people, but I welcome friends of any age over eighteen.

I don't view this as an application process of any sort. It's the internet. A three sentence comment won't tell me a whole lot about you, just like you really don't know anything about me. If you'd like to subscribe/give access please feel free and I'll happily return the gesture.

Hello! I'll be adding you. I dabble in writing from time to time and I'm always up for discussions about reading and writing. And silliness of course :D

Just wanted to let you know that I'll be doing the same. (Oh wait...you know that already =D)

You might find a whole lot more silliness than discussion coming from me, actually. The writing has been sloooooooooow going and I just read something that made me cry- which means I'll need to read a pile of lighthearted goofiness to make up for it.

Added you back =D and saw some pictures. Some deliciously spooky cake pictures! My husband and my middle son watched something on the food channel over the weekend...some sort of spooky cake competition. They also watched a haunted gingerbread house competition. The cakes and candies sounded amazing. I wish I'd seen it! (And eaten them. I'm a pragmatist at heart, when it comes to cake.)

And I love reading about your Nano progress. I generally take your word count goals, divide them by four, and use that as my own personal guideline.

Oh-ho!

A haunted gingerbread house? Now THAT sounds interesting! That's something my mother would be good at. I've never (ever!) managed to make a successful gingerbread house. I'm good at eating them though. Seriously.

Over the years my kids and I have progressed (regressed?) to the point of making them flat...out of graham crackers. Pretty much just taking a sheet of graham cracker and smearing frosting on it, then cramming some gumdrops on. I suppose that's more of a sugar-crazed drywall sheet than a house.

As far as the actual houses go, my sister still makes fun of me for the year she sent a care package to my dorm and I ate the mini-gingerbread house, then fussed about how hard it was to chew. HOW HILARIOUS that I ate a DECORATIVE house full of glue! =___= Gingerbread=food, am I right?

Before I slip this mortal coil I had BETTER have a reason to comment-reply someone with a simple: Oh-ho!

If I were able to control other people by long-distance mind control (and frankly, it's unclear to me why this isn't the case) I'd have you halt everything--yuletide, going to work...well, not nano because I want to see what happens, but everything else--and read Gospel by Wilton Barnhardt.

That book's in my top five favorites, but hardly anyone I rec it to will read it because (1) it's long and (2) it starts with a "gospel" excerpt which isn't difficult to read, but it isn't Danielle Steel easy, either. After a few pages of that the present day story kicks in, so it's really not a big deal.

Isn't it great when I rec 788 page books to you while you're incredibly busy? =D In my defense, you are always incredibly busy! Maybe just pencil it into your "things to maybe read someday" list.

Anything that's likened to In the Name of the Rose (and thankfully not to The DaVinci Code) is okay by me. I'll put it on my Amazon wishlist for now. ;)

I'll add you right back =D I have plenty of thoughts on writing. Lots and lots and LOTS of thoughts! Maybe I can increase the amount of actual output. I took some time off, and now I can't seem to get consistent time ON.

I'm not quite a writer. :) When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a writer. As I started to grow up, I started to doubt my writing abilities - that I wasn't creative, that I wasn't talented.

I'm slowly starting to realise that it's okay to not be an award winning novelist. I can work on developing the skills that I do have and enjoy the process, rather than stressing that I'm not good enough.

As long as I'm not inflicting too much awful writing on to the world, it's not going to hurt anyone ;)

I'm a little late to the party, but may I also add you? I'm a wanna-be writer myself who loves reading about other people's experiences with the written word.

Yes! I just peeked at your journal and saw you've recently reviewed Dorothy Sayers =D This is the sort of information I need!

You and I have already have some comment exchanges in a DW writing community...I think you tried valiantly to explain linking to me, and I complimented your dinosaur icon =D (back when I still used my old username).
