Heya~

I'm Becca. I graduate from Uni this coming spring (autumn if you're in the Southern Hemisphere), and I'm currently finishing up a semester abroad in Australia. I'm studying psychology and linguistics, which, contrary to popular belief, means that I'm one of the last people who's going to be a stickler about grammar. If I could only have one type of fruit for the rest of my life, it would be avocados (two types: + strawberries), and I love a good brew pub. I love blasting classic rock while driving, my favorite season is autumn, and if I came up with one more non sequitur, you'll probably think I've lost it.

I try not to take myself too seriously because I never want to be the kind of person who can't laugh at themselves. At the end of the day, if I have one guiding principle, it's "don't be a douchebag."

My journal consists mostly of things that are happening to me in real life (i.e., my upcoming transition from student to "adult"), my musings on things that I see fit to muse about (don't ask me to get more specific than that, I couldn't even if I wanted to), and reactions to various media that I consume. I'd love some active friends to talk to. I don't necessarily need/expect comments on my entries, because you don't owe me anything and I know that sometimes there's just nothing to say, but interaction somewhere is nice (I mean, that's why we're here, right?). Also, it's not possible to tl;dr at me about anything, I love it.

Hobbies: Knitting is a big one. I have busy hands, and if they're not doing something at all times, I literally start destroying things. (Seriously, just ask every single play/concert program I've ever gotten, OH WAIT YOU CAN'T, I MANGLED THEM.) I also spin, which means I make my own yarn as well. I could tell you that it's because it's cheaper, but that would be bald-faced lie.

There's a bunch of other things I want to get into as soon as I can, like rowing (well, back into rowing. I rowed in high school and I miss it a lot for some masochistic reason), archery, and rock climbing, but the start-up costs are a bit steep for a student budget.

Fandom: I'm prone to squee and flail, but my favorite fandom interactions actually involve picking things apart and over-thinking everything. If I ever criticize something, it means I care. I'd say I'm a step up from a casual fan but I'm also hardly hardcore into fandom. Most of my fannish interaction is confined to my friends list though, so it will show up in my journal. Sorry! I can't abide character/ship bashing, and you can bet that if I don't like a character, there's a damn good reason for it that's deeper than them getting in the way of my favorite ship or daring to disagree with my faves.

For the sake of full disclosure, I do write fic, and I do write about writing fic. But that's more for me than anyone else. It's more of a psychological trick I play on myself than anything else. I tend to stay motivated when someone else might know that I'm working on something. I don't post finished products on my personal journal, and I certainly don't expect anyone to keep up with my work.

Right now, I'm ~obsessed with the MCU films, especially Captain America. I'm wading into the comics (starting in the Winter Soldier/Black Widow/Hawkeye/Mockingbird corner - the new Hawkeye comics give me life and my love for Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes in any universe really cannot be overstated), and as soon as I have disposable income again, I'm going to move into Ms Marvel/Iron Man/Deadpool/Everything-I-Can-Touch territory.

As far as other fandoms go, given that I'm abroad and have bandwidth restrictions I don't at home, I've had to whittle my TV consumption down to Once Upon a Time and Supernatural (along with Merlin and Doctor Who, but those also air on TV promptly over here). I also love The Losers far more than a camptastic action film from 2010 probably deserves, but there you go (the comics were pretty rad too).

I also enjoy: Cabin Pressure, Psych, Lie to Me, The X-Files (in my heart forever), Merlin, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Harry Potter, The History Boys, Lost, Sherlock, Luther, Kings, Firefly, Buffy, Parks and Recreation, Community, Elementary, The Princess Bride, The Vampire Diaries, New Amsterdam (does anyone but me and my dad remember that show?), Game of Thrones, Dexter, etc., etc.

I am also adverbedly at tumblr and vestigialwords at livejournal, if you're so inclined. If you want to try this friends-thing out, lemme know either here or at my journal. I ain't picky!

I'm not active enough online right now to add any friends but I just wanted to comment to show some New Amsterdam love!

You seem really cool :) (and yay, a fellow knitter!)

I'm not too active at the mo, but I'm trying to update at least once a week. Here's my 'about me' page if you'd like to add me - thanks!

Hey! I'd like to add you :)
I'm German, now working in Jordan. I graduated from uni this year, with a degree in linguistics, japanology and philosophy.
I can't stand grammar nazis (especially the self-proclaimed ones who end up criticizing spelling, not grammar - totally my pet peeve). And I also like some of the shows you mentioned :)
So far, I've only posted entries in German, but I promised to add a few English posts now and then as well.

Hello fellow spinner/knitter! You have a great writing style :-)

My journal is locked, so I've opened access for you to see if you'd stay to stay a while. (I've got tea and cookies!)

You seem amazingly awesome. Mind if I add? My friends list, too, has needed some life breathed into it, and fellow knitters and writers and fandom squeers are always welcome.

Hee! Totally not imagining it, unless it was some kind of mass hallucination :). I'm very familiar with the blank stare, especially after Games of Thrones came out and I was excited to see Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. I so wanted to start a whole Times Square photo journal thing because of the show but I never remember to take the photo in the same spot!

I've added you. I'm also interested in linguistics -- particularly alien and/or invented languages, as I write speculative fiction and poetry. You'd probably enjoy some of that, so feel free to drop by my journal and check.

Spindle! I've looked at wheels, but I really like how portable my spindles are and how I am not tied to a particular spot in the house either. Plus I can mesmerize people at parties....mwahahaha!

Heh, well I always can spin quicker than I can knit the yarn up, so I'm not too worried about production capability. Actually with practice a spindle can spin faster than a flyer wheel, especially with laceweight (I mostly spin for fingering to sport weight, so this would include singles before plying). I'm not sure I'm at that level yet, but that just means more spinning :-D

I still think wheels are cool too and if I spun a lot of bulkier yarns I would probably be looking into them. Instead I have been eying support spindles. Last knitter's faire I got sucked into another top whorl though.
